Obsidian is a note-taking and knowledge management app focused on local Markdown files, internal linking, and a highly customizable workflow.

What it offers

• Local-first storage, so notes are kept on your device as regular files
• Strong linking features for building connected notes
• Wide plugin and theme ecosystem for customization
• Cross-platform availability on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS

Things to keep in mind

• Its flexibility is a strength, but it can also mean a steeper learning curve than simpler note apps
• Community plugins can add useful features, but they should be installed carefully since third-party extensions can introduce privacy or stability risks
• Sync and publishing features may depend on paid services or third-party setups, depending on how you want to use it

Security and privacy perspective

• Because notes are stored locally by default, many users prefer it for privacy-conscious workflows
• That said, privacy still depends on your device security, backup method, and any cloud sync provider you choose
• If sensitive information is involved, full-disk encryption, strong account protection, and trusted backup practices matter more than the note app alone

Bottom line

Obsidian is generally appealing for users who want control, offline access, and deep customization, especially for personal knowledge management rather than just basic note-taking.
