So you pass the fire risk to your mom?

i get what you are saying, but

mom can go outside and get struck by lightning too

the probability of getting struck by lightning ( 1\15300 ) is far greater than the probability ( 183\30,000,000 over 5 years in canada ~ 1\150,000 in a 5 year period) of an ANY phone causing a fire for ANY reason

then there are the fires from laptops, to include newly manufactured ones, which is worse than phones

Opening yourself to a whole load of trouble and risks associated with old smartphones. Just buy a cheap new smartphone, the solution to the problem.
While it is certainly better to use a phone which is still receiving updates, I am not sure it is a serious security risk to use an outdated phone.
