OPSWAT Gears is a free tool that will quickly scan your system, detect viruses and provide a status of all installed applications.
Gears also helps you detect infections on your computer by using more than 40+ antivirus engines from leading antivirus vendors such as McAfee, Symantec and ESET to scan your device for malware that might be missed by your installed antivirus software.

The initial scan of the system seemed to take a little extra time, but as we ran it for the second time it proved to be pretty quick. During the scan two advanced detection methods are employed to identify threats that may not have been detected by the user's installed anti-malware software or experienced issues remediating, and provides a powerful tool to uninstall unwanted applications.

OPSWAT Gears also scores your systems overall security and breaks it up into an easy to read pie chart for analysis of areas that may need some additional attention.

Limitations:
This is just a scanner, however you can uninstall applications. If something suspicious is found you will need to outsource for anti-virus removal solutions.

OPSWAT Gears is intended more for system administrators than home users. When I tried it months ago it was heavy since it uses multiple AV engines to scan the system for malicious files... much in the same vein as HerdProtect.

The app has received regular updates over the past 5 to 6 months. So it could be that it has been better optimized.

One neat feature is the Data Sandbox (anti-data leak). It can be used with most popular apps and browsers. It is not a virtual container, but a data sandbox - along the lines of Kaspersky's Safe Money.

Some might find OPSWAT Gears' Data Sandbox useful, but in the end it simply does not replace a virtual sandbox. At least not for me... Sandboxie or Shadow Defender are much better options from a security perspective, whereas Gears is better in terms of protecting against data leakage.

If one wants to protect browser data then the best option is Quarri... or another "armored", extensionless browser. Quarri is slick...
