I should also probably add that this may have something to do with my university;

Due to the start of a new semester, the WiFi service is messed up- so I took steps to "restart" or "reinstall" the university WiFi. Namely, they had a file which I downloaded for Windows 7 specifically to make the setup automatic.

I would now also like t mention two additional things:

1) My laptop does randomly shutdown from time to time (and we tried to solve this on MalwareTips a yer or so ago- with some success [thank you])

2) However, recently, it just shut down and turned into a blue screen with a bunch of text, saying either to restart or to contact someone to check it- and it was related to the C: drive again.

(Sorry, but I didn't see the edit button for my first post -.-')

Give this a try :)

Any applications I tell you to use (if any) are 100% safe - by following my instructions, it it completely at your own risk!

1.) Download CCleaner from this link which is the official website: http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup513.exe
2.) Run CCleaner:
Press the
ccl-any-png.80728
button and let it analyse your PC.
After it has analysed your PC press the
ccl-cln-png.80729
button and let it finish.

3.) Restart your PC and see if it works now.

If the above didn't work then try this:

1.) Run CCleaner:

Press the
ccl-reg-png.80730
button on the left side of CCleaner.

Now click the
ccl-scan-for-issues-png.80731
button.

Make sure you backup changes to the registry in the case of any problems.

After it has scanned for issues, click the
ccl-fix-sel-png.80732
button and backup your registry. It is highly recommended that you go through the registry keys It has found manually to see if you need them.

2.) Open the start menu and search %temp% delete any thumbnails there.

3.) Empty the recycle bin.

4.) Restart your computer.

Please tell me the situation :)

Hope this helps.

A simpler but more indirect approach to this issue, instead of using BlueScreenView by yourself and posting the logs, would be to navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump and pack the most recent .dmp files you find in that directory in a .zip archive, and lastly upload that .zip file here as an attachment.

This way, other members here will be able to take a look at the minidumps and attempt to suggest an overall more accurate diagnosis as to what may have caused the BSODs. :p

So I saved the BSOD in a notepad file, and there's two major problems;

1) The latest crash it reports is in 2014,

and 2) The ONLY BSOD crash I have EVER had on this laptop (and this laptop is mine; no one else uses it) is the day before this forum was made. So uh.... wth?

i will try out the other options by tomorrow or day after hopefully (I have some assignments that I have to work on -_-' ).

I also wanted to say that this laptop was *not* bought second hand. Furthermore, FF is awfully slow since the BSOD.

Minidumps all report driver failure.
This unfortunately can be caused by various issues:
  • Corrupt system files: Open up a Command Prompt window as administrator and enter the sfc /scannow command, wait until it finishes, and once it's done, restart your system.
  • Corrupt, missing, or out-of-date drivers: Open up Device Manager and scan for updates for any driver you can find. Check every entry and see if there is a yellow exclamation mark (warning) next to a device's name, and post the name of that device here.
  • BIOS-related: I don't think we should examine this case yet, unless you tweaked the BIOS recently or if you did a BIOS update that might have gone wrong.
Perform the checks above in the order in which they are in the list.

Report any findings/results or any additional information back here.

Make sure you try my previous solution, if it still doesn't work try this @Zexx :)

Any applications I tell you to use (if any) are 100% safe - by following my instructions, it it completely at your own risk!

1.) Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free from this link: Thank you for downloading Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
2.) Go through the installation, the default settings will do for now :)

3.) Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free, a shortcut should be on your desktop which looks like this:
mbam short.PNG

4.) If you get a pop-up windows from User Account Control click yes.
5.) This windows should open:
mbam ui.PNG

  • Click
    mbam up.PNG
and wait until it has finished.
  • Click
    mbam scan.PNG
    and then click:
    mbam threat.PNG
  • Now click
    mbam start scan.PNG
and let it complete, attach the log in your next post please so I can help you more easily.
If you don't know or understand what to do, stop and ask :)

So I did everything in the CC Cleaner and Malwarebytes post with the exception of the %temp% thing, as I was unsure as to whether that meant deleting *everything* in the Temp folder.

For the Malwarebyte Scan, there were only 3 PUPs:

The issues remain. Firefox is slightly faster now, but nowhere near how it was when everything was normal.

Additionally, on Monday, the laptop unexpectedly randomly shut down (still unsure as to why thins happens- I thought I had figured it out last year, but guess not). When I brought it back up, there C: drive inconsistency message came up again. I cancelled it- and then there was a (new) message of the F: drive being inconsistent.

This occurred after I had done all steps and restarted as well.

The only thing that went awry from the CC was that certain patch files for a game that I play were gone. So I just did a full uninstall for that game and reinstalled it right now (within the last 20 mins).

Scratch that about FF being a little better; it's not.

Any applications I tell you to use (if any) are 100% safe - by following my instructions, it is completely at your own risk!

1.) Run AdwCleaner from this link: Thank you for downloading AdwCleaner - ToolsLib

2.) Click the scan button when it has run

3.) Click the clean button, it may need to restart your computer make sure you do.

4.) On the reboot a log will open, upload the text here so I can review it :)

Okay, I'll do the Adw thing by tonight (midnight). I get the feeling that this is malware related- it's highly unlikely related to software.

The other thing is- IT GOT WORSE!

I was trying to wake it up for hibernation today, and then a black screen came up saying it couldn't wake up from hibernation and a reboot would be needed. So I hit enter.

Then another screen came and gave me a choice; either reboot, or retry... so I did retry. Thankfully then it came back up regularly.
