User said there was no Update button but there is one under settings.
Now I'm having doubts if Panda was updated during his test.

Clearly it's a fresh install of the trial and there's a possibility the initial update was not triggered as he turned off the protections.
Panda is completely cloud-based, the update button only downloads the latest cache (hashes) to provide some level of offline protection.

Not updating Panda does not impede its functionality.

The detection rate is not amazing.

When evaluating how a security suite performs, or when you are spinning up an environment to test things hands-on, analyzing the full kill chain is what actually matters. Monitoring a realistic execution flow, watching the process trees spawn in Process Explorer, checking what persistence mechanisms try to hook into Autoruns, or capturing the initial C2 callbacks with Wireshark, gives a much more accurate picture of a security tool's real capabilities than just double-clicking a folder full of malware.

It is interesting though, that it always scores well in AV tests. I believe that the problem is that it is a cloud AV with 30 secs window by default. It can handle some malware, but when you throw too much at it, in an unrealistic testing scenario, it bottlenecks and it basically allows malware before it gets properly analyzed. I wonder what would happen, if he would let the PC run for a while to see, if it gets disinfected. While post-execution removal is not ideal, it still counts in AV tests.

Why to use Panda or any free 3rd party AV (B and Avast with excessive disk writes), while MD is pre-installed, as effective, and without excessive disk writes!

Only paid 3rd party AV is you are worried about your online banking or using P2P downloading or cracked software, to justify the money you pay.

Its all personal choice which we use, having tried Panda just for fun last year, only part of the issue is its malware abilities, I found it very unstable, difficult to install etc - For the past year or two I've used McAfee or now Kaspersky both which for me work perfectly, I really don't mind paying a few £'s for something I like though & it always is just a small amount if you shop round.

Companies historically rarely give something for free
They do not; if using B free or Avast free, I am paying with my data.
Would users still use MD if if they had to pay anything for it?
If there in no free MD, I would choose the least expensive product which meets my basic needs, after listing my requirements and revising the compartive testing results.

If the past is anything to go by & its all we have, I would think the roadmap is to convert windows itself to $ which has been done with office & just about all else? At the moment it seems to be in the interest of MS to move users long held opinion away from the windows has viruses/malware that many people around used to feel, MD has changed a lot of that - Subscriptions are now a way of life & the younger users see that as de facto, I can't see MS not doing that in time or actually as soon as they can safely do it, it won't be long before the old school users of windows die off :):):)

Yesterday, ISP called to complete the transition from ADSL to FTTH.
Tried to cancel, but they said I will lose internet service at all if I refused.
ASDL is meeting my requirements, why to upgrade? This is feasibility.

@Parkinsond same in UK you either have FTTP or FTTP, in my case I do prefer that but I don't have DL restrictions as you have, there aren't many choices in life these days as we are railroaded into things which are accepted by the masses (lemmings) & moan afterward such as SM & issues with it.

Final comment as OT & don't want to be punished :rolleyes::rolleyes:
