My PC seems to have picked up a virus and has been effectively disabled so I can't investigate any further. A white pop-up box appeared that covered the entire screen.. then the PC shut down. On start-up, the PC logs in normally but instead of the regular Windows screen I get that white pop-up box again. I can't minimise or close that box, so I can't get access to any Windows tools or the internet. If I press Cntrl-Alt-Delete to get to the Task Manager I see that the button is disabled (greyed out). My PC does not automatically connect to the internet. I start the Windows "Wireless Zero Configuration" (?) service manually when I want to go on-line. So, I suspect the white pop-up box is meant to take me to another web-site .. but it can't because there is no internet connection running (the Service would have been stopped by the re-boot). My symptoms are therefore probably not the usual or "intended" symptoms. I do have a built-in modem as well as a wireless connection but the built-in modem connects to the internet via a hosting site, which I dial into using a desktop shortcut... so I can't access anything that way. I do have a Windows XP CD, if my only option is to boot from that. Thanks.
