Advice Request Pivate DNS settings in browsers and Adgaurd Desktop

Now if I am using Adguard Desktop and have Adguard DNS set up using the protocol DNS over HTTPS in Adguard Desktop settings, do I need to use the Private DNS option in browsers like Vivaldi and Firefox as a fallback protection? Does having both enabled (Private DNS and Adguard Desktop DOH) cause any latency?

I have tested using DNSLEAKTEST with Private DNS enabled and disabled, the same result with no leaks.

No need to have private DNS enabled in all apps + AdGuard + Windows. I'd recommend you just to enable it in Windows settings and it will apply to all apps which use internet connection. That's if you want DNS-over-HTTPS. If you want to use other protocol you'll have to use just AdGuard software.

Adding custom DNS and use the built in DNS over HTTPS in Windows 11 settings never worked for me. Browsers were using my ISP DNS though I have DOH enabled in Windows settings. That is why I resorted to Private DNS and Adguard Desktop.

Yes I followed the setup instructions on my NextDNS dashboard. Using the desktop client of NextDNS fixes the issue. In the same way using Private DNS in browser settings fixes it. Now I am using Adguard Desktop and everything is working as intended.

AdGuard desktop advanced settings offer multiple options to configure fallback DNS or secure DNS. The latest AdGuard desktop version worked well when I tested it. Look at the help files.

Whatever DNS you set in AdGuard will be used system-wide including browsers. But if you still setup DNS invidually in browsers in case you want a different DNS for your browser only, then AdGuard would honor that.
Regarding fallback DNS setting in ADG Windows, here it is. By default, it is set to System DNS as fallback, but I have disabled fallback DNS on mine to prevent potential DNS leakage.

I checked it: disabling AdGuard using the browser assistant disables AdGuard.
