Guys, want a cold shower?

The speeds above 2 Gb/s are useless and everyone that has higher internet package just pays more for something they could never use to the full.

We're not in 2010's, we're in 2024. Internet speed isn't the limiting factor anymore, it's the computer (or any other device) hardware and the quality of ISP connection.

1. issue: web server connection
If you have 25 Gb/s speed, and the server you're downloading from has 10 Gb/s connection (which is actually the case most of the times), you can only download at 10 Gb/s and that's in ideal condition server isn't busy by other clients, only you.

2. issue: hardware limit
You can only download files at the speed your HDD/SSD works. You may have 100 Tb/s network connection, but if your drive is only capable of writing at 125 MB/s, then you won't be downloading any faster. Also, you'd need fast CPU to handle all the workload.

3. issue: quality of your ISP routing
Let's say your ISP uses low quality routes to the specific server and you have bunch of lost packets, high latency etc. Your speed won't help you with that. But higher quality route will. To download a file, you'll have to use a VPN server to go with different route, but again, none of the VPN servers will have bandwidth to let you surf with 25 Gb/s speed.

4. issue: censored web
@FALLEN Obviously, lives in Turkey where common occurence is nationwide censorship of the web. To get around it, he has to use VPN. As I already said, this reduces your actual speed DRASTICALLY. So what's the point in having that speed when you're surfing the web at way slower speed. This isn't just a case in Turkey, it's the norm in all authoritarian countries.

5. issue: you don't really need it
You don't really need anything above 2 Gb/s and even that's extreme. 1 Gb/s is more than enough for large family house with large number of devices. Even if everyone streamed at 4K, there'll still be a lot of bandwidth left. And no, you don't need to download Steam game at 25 Gb/s, Steam probably couldn't even handle that speed so it will always download at lower speed.

The only valid use for speeds higher than 1 Gb/s would be if you have a server connected to the internet; otherwise there really isn't any use. So, guys, don't be jelaous. At least you're not paying for something that you can't use. And keep in mind that speed doesn't indicate quality of the connection; you can have high speed connection which constantly breaks or censors the web.

I hadn't really seen your message, sorry, but you've said it all!
I had 10Gbps symmetrical even 2Gbps symmetrical and it's useless.

For the record, I paid 60€/month for 10Gbps and then the same for 2Gbps symmetrical with Orange, and I never reached those speeds.
When I download, I'm limited to 1Gbps maximum.

I've now switched back to 1Gbps symmetrical at €30/month and that's enough for me :) (but with another ISP).

Where I live (they cover a lot of the US) my ISP provider Spectrum upped their speeds about a month ago from 300 download (was always around 340) and 10 up (was around 11.2).
They are now at 500 ( I get ~550) and 20 (22+). A tech was at my house to confirm my modem needed to be replaced, and mentioned they're working on getting symmetrical up and down speeds to the customers in the near future.

I have Spectrum too with 1 Gbps plan and often see 940 Mbps down at the Unifi router but upload is capped at 40 -- I don't understand why up is capped so low? But a speedtest site new to me run from browser on Linux reported 292 up the other day, only time I've seen upload that fast. fwiw I just tried this cloudflare site again and tonight I get "Unable to connect -- An error occurred during a connection." Tonight the Unifi router speedtest = 791 dn / 16 up (ISP speed potential 67%) I've seen tests on YT of 5 Gbps & even 9 Gbps but with super hardware & cables.

Glad you realized it and started saving money. ISPs and banks are two types of companies that you should be really careful with. They will offer you everything and convince you need it so they can earn as much money from you as they can. And will definitely try to defraud you during every interaction with them.

30€ a month may not seem a lot to some people (it is for us in Croatia), but I'd say it's 30€ too much for something you can't use to the full. I mean, it's 360€ for a year which is a lot.

It's the cheapest here for a quality connection and customer service by phone and in-store with Wifi 6.

Other operators offer between €20 and €27, but either you don't get any support, or you're stuck with the hardware.

With the €30 offer, I've also got a nice reduction on my mobile package, which goes from €19.99 to €7.99 for 200GB of 5G :)

I just looked at my bill (it's online & paid automatically so haven't looked in a long time) service works 99.99+% of time, 1 Gbps service with 2.5 gig modem $112US /month -- not sure there's a good alternative where I live. 😞 (not that much cheaper to drop the speed & cost).
speed at Unifi router 200p local time 770 dn / 38 up (ISP speed potential 97%) latency 25ms.
cloudflare speedtest on win10 running Linux in VMware= 335 dn / 124 up > latency 25 ms jitter 5.2ms Cloudflare seems to be the only test that seems not to cap upload at 40 Mbps...
