Security News PS4 users advised to set Messages to Private; Message Exploit

PlayStation 4 users are being warned to set their messages to private due to an exploit making the rounds.
PS4 users are warning others that a private message being sent contains characters, that when viewed, force players to factory reset their consoles in order to get it working again.

And it’s not just opening of the message that does it: just receiving the notification can be enough to force a reset “depending on how much of the message it parses.”

It's been noted that deleting the offending Message from the PS Messaging app works as a solution. No need to factory reset.

Is this confirmed as real and working? Interesting...
Can happen to any system that sends and receives messages. I'm certain it's been explained many times in those articles where iOS were targeted.

Need to see if Sony will push out a firmware update.

Good news for anyone who has been affected and hasn't reset their PS4 yet...



There's also other solutions in the comments of that Reddit thread such as using the web version of PSN which allegedly now supports message removal.
