Are you using Android or iOS?

Apple has their QR reader built-in to the iOS default Camera app. No extra apps needed.
Certain Android phones (ie. Samsung) have a QR reader shortcut in the drop-down tiles.

F-Droid repo has a few open-source apps for QR reader/scanner.
