You made me remember my era when I became interested in security. Was a big fan of ESET. This was in 2010, and this was the GUI.

I remember when Eset NOD32 was written in assembly so the GUI was an after thought. It was a giant Red Button that you pressed which would iniate the system scan and the button would pulsate as the scan was being conducted. I also remember the Kaspersky Pig Squeel, I used to have a nice surround sound for my PC, I had the volume up and forgot to turn it off. I let the system conduct an overnight scan since it would take a while....at around 2 am I am woken up by a giant pig squeel.


Anyhow here is the only image of the OLD GUI that I was able to locate:

I can't agree more with the A and S tiers, as well as the trash tier.

Very bias opinion against Avast and AVG. Easily some of the very best free antivirus.
He starts by saying that if you're paying for AV, you're throwing money into a fire. Then ends by recommending Kaspersky as the best one, which doesn't have a free version, neither does Malwarebytes have a free version with real time protection. Clearly a useless video.

I liked old versions a lot as it was very stable. It came with a motherboard I got in 1999. Back in the Windows 98 days, due the lack of hardware memory protection (which was introduced in Windows 98), buggy software could overwrite memory in use by another app, leading to crashes. This was a particular issue with antiviruses. But PC-cillin was very stable for me and never caused any such issues.

And this was the first version of BD I used.

When I first used it, it was named AntiVirus eXpert, or AVX for short. But I haven't found any screenshots.

I used to really like the UI of Avast 4. You could download different skins to change the look. It took me a while to get used to new UI when they released v5. I was a big fan of Avast for a few years.

There was also AOL Active Virus Shield. A free version of Kaspersky 6, years before Kasperksy released a free version themselves. Anyone could use it, not just AOL customers.

This guy ranks antivirus programs without ANY testing, without running ANY malware or phishing attacks—and he calls himself a tester?

And with all honesty the criterion followed by MT testers is also flawed.
