New Update Re-visit to AVG in 2025

Got this from Grok:
Yes, this fits fairly well as a plausible observation and hypothesis. Here's a quick breakdown based on the available information:AVG Improvements in Web Shield and File AntivirusWeb Shield and File Shield (often called File Antivirus) are core components of AVG AntiVirus/Internet Security.

They have been around for a long time, focusing on real-time scanning of downloads, web traffic (incl. HTTPS) and opened files. There aren't a ton of public "breaking news" articles about massive, recent overhauls right in 2025/2026, but:Independent testers (AV-Comparatives, AV-Test, AVLab) show that Gen Digital brands like AVG score well on detection and protection, powered by advanced machine learning and AI.User reports and support pages often mention updates affecting performance, false positives and HTTPS scanning.

Better detection can come from background updates to the core engine. In general, Gen Digital (owner of AVG) has focused on strengthening core protection across products. So the observation of "significant improvements" is reasonable - especially if you've seen better performance or fewer crashes in tests recently.

A quick observation: AVG appears to have made significant improvements to its Web Shield and File Antivirus. This raises an interesting question: when Norton integrated Norton Power Eraser technology into its security products, after they discontinued it. could some of those detection techniques or underlying technology have also been adopted across other Gen Digital brands? There's no public confirmation of that, but AVG's recent performance makes it an interesting possibility.
Power eraser had nothing to do with web protection as far as I know.

Correct, however, Norton mentioned they have implemented Power Eraser into their products, so I’m wondering if it has also been added to AVG/Avast since they share the same underlying detection technology. Supposedly, it’s already active in the product, but I’m not sure if AVG/Avast have received that technology yet.Definitely, detection improvements have been made.

Now I see what you mean. In the past when A vast acquired AVG, both products became almost identical with different GUI, but Avast had kept the Sandbox for its products and never incorporated it in AVG. Maybe it is the same with Norton now.
