Norton is a clone of Avast. Avg, Avast, Norton, you buy whichever one you like the look of. I'm sorry that F secure is completely Avira.G data, the best in online and offline protection. Personally, I would like the protection to be like that. I use Eset on laptop and Sophos on desktop PC. If my license runs out, I would like to buy G data. (I do not use other than Eset on laptop, it is too light)

  • QuickHeal protection seems lacking a lot, I'm looking forward to @Shadowra 's test!
  • Shockingly many FP with F-Secure, I cannot remember having a lot in the years using it (dropped it recently when they started cloning Avira).
  • I wonder why they're testing K7 in v16, v17 has been there for quite a long time (>1 y).
  • Trend Micro has surprisingly high misses?

I don't understand why they are still testing version 16. I wonder if K7 is insisting that they use version 16? When I used K7 one of the Microsoft defender antimalware modules wouldn't shut down. So I couldn't use it. Do you have this problem? Can you look in the task manager?

No issues between K7 and WD in my system.

Running fine on 3 machines I own, and on one machine belonging to a friend.
All share Win11 x64 24 H2 (one Pro, all other Home), one is due to get updated to April Patch day, all others are.
Scheduled scan by WD is however not activated (it isn't by default either).

EDIT: Not sure if K7 would try to autoupgrade to v17 anyway? Been using it so long I cannot tell, but the mini-upgrades (changing the version # behind v17.0) are applied without any user input, they come via the autoupdate. Seldom, it requires a reboot though.

I have GData on win10_VM, I like it a lot, it runs lightly, and seems to provide excellent protection.

G DATA is no longer actively developed. It receives updates for break-fixes, bugs, and reported vulnerability issues - but it is no longer receiving new features or other product improvements. Any improvements are minimal. Incremental. This is when a software is a "maintenance" phase - where the code is maintained but nothing is really done to improve the product.

The investment firm/holding company that owns G DATA - headed by Ms. Kaspersky - has been milking products for years. They've all been in a maintenance phase for years.

Plus, G DATA is a very small company compared to other AV publishers. It is difficult to get proper support or bugs fixed.

Protection wise, I'd put G DATA behind Windows Defender. AV lab tests have shown repeatedly for the prior 10+ years that G DATA fails against script malware and many software that are not .exe. I would not put it onto a system with truly valuable data (peoples' 1 TB libraries of ePorner videos is not valuable data - let it all get encrypted and ransomed).
