McAfee and Norton-Avast-AVG improved a little than the previous one.Your opinion about this test?
McAfee and Norton-Avast-AVG improved a little than the previous one.
However, the difference between the top products (including MSD) is very small (fractions of 1%) which does not show effect for daily use, except if being exposed to hundreds of malware everyday.AVG-Norton-Avast looks like they're in the Top of the Detection rate with 0 compromise. WOW!
This has been true for years for all top solutions. Choose for best price/low system impact, make sure it doesn't get in the way of your workflow, like blocking printers or sites you need. Difference in detection rate is minimal, and any protection solution may be bypassed by the right malware. To me it looks like all the top tier all offer great protection. Just decide what you need in your antivirus, and look for the best value. Right now they're all pretty cheap.
Used for a short time a quarter of century ago; it had a sleek UI, but at this point of time, I had no enough knowledge regarding AVs.Sweet mother of pearl, 43 false positives from Trend Micro? It's been a very long time since I used it. Do people encounter so many in practice?
IIRC I have not had any false positives with Trend Micro currently on one of my VMs, but I don't push it by looking for malware and it is not my daily driver. I do like TM's workflow, operation. light for me.Sweet mother of pearl, 43 false positives from Trend Micro? It's been a very long time since I used it. Do people encounter so many in practice?
Never encounterd any fp.Sweet mother of pearl, 43 false positives from Trend Micro? It's been a very long time since I used it. Do people encounter so many in practice?
B gave me the highest rate of FP; one time it flagged MS Notepad.exe!Never encounterd any fp.
I switched to Windows Defender because RAM usage was a factor. I've gotten used to the UI by now. I still have Bitdefender on another monthly-used machine and am still fumbling around looking for stuffs. At this rate, though, I probably would never switch away from Windows Defender on my main machines.RAM usage is not a factor. Neither is UI, you'll probably never look at it after initial setup and exceptions are set...
I move between MSD and AVG free (remove all components except file, behavioral, and web shields, and firewall).I switched to Windows Defender because RAM usage was a factor. I think in a very long usage I encountered once (also in Hypersensitive mode), I don’t remember what sort of program was terminated due to attempts for injecting code. I’ve not encountered false positives other than this.Sweet mother of pearl, 43 false positives from Trend Micro? It's been a very long time since I used it. Do people encounter so many in practice?
Don't those three use the same engine or something like that?AVG-Norton-Avast looks like they're in the Top of the Detection rate with 0 compromise. WOW!
Yes, with some extra features for Norton.Don't those three use the same engine or something like that?

Avira is the only one in the Gen Stack who's still using it's own and being license to 3rd parties.(Luke Filewalker)Yes, with some extra features for Norton.
Waiting to see what are the plans of Gen Digital for Avira.Avira is the only one in the Gen Stack who's still using it's own and being license to 3rd parties.(Luke Filewalker)
I think they will retain it as it is. BD and Avira Engines are the most widely used for 3rd parties. Maybe good detection with cheap sdk licenses??Waiting to see what are the plans of Gen Digital for Avira.
