So usually I get hold of cheap licences via Amazon, however that seems to have been shut down and they're no longer cheap.

I managed to grab hold of a cheap licence from Kaspersky direct, didn't think this would be an issue...
  1. Activation code isn't present - I had to get in touch with support in order for them to provide me with an activation code that i could add to existing devices
  2. Activation code wouldn't add - I had to manually remove the current licence and then add the new one
  3. As soon as i add the activation code - it ties my email address to it, basically i have to have it connected to the 'My Kaspersky'
  4. Data Leak Checker - How is there not a way to disable this? I'll be using this licence on various machines that aren't mine (Family) I don't want data leak checker, constantly checking for issues with my email address. I also don't want to be sharing/inviting family with their email addresses either. Can we just not disable this pointless feature?
  5. Manage my account - Clicking this basically boots up a browser and straight into the My Kaspersky account - they call it 'limited functionality mode'. You can't really change anything without being logged in, but why show all this anyway? Why not force login as soon as that browser opens that window? It also allows you to download the application without logging in - this has the activation code built in too.
Why can't things just be simple anymore?

Buying Kaspersky subscription via K. official site changed sometime ago (with new product line, around 2 years ago) the new: no more license codes but Subscription model. So to activate devices with this model You have, of course, to connect the devices with Your My Kaspersky user/passw linked to that Subscription.

Still, old license codes will work if You add them to Your My Kaspersky space.

Annoyingly.

It feels like basic things that i should be able to do, I can't
  • Disable data leak checker
  • Not allow it to basically boot up the Kaspersky account page and show off all devices and settings?
Pretty sure i've banged on about data leak checker not being able to be disabled for years, and we still can't do it?

Is there any source for this? Does it mean that in future you can only buy license straight from kaspersky and no more 3rd party sites will sell keys?

That's not what he's saying.

3rd Party sellers still exist - it's just that they aren't cheap anymore, or not as cheap as they used to be. Well, ones like Amazon etc.I assume that these this will still send activation codes and allow you to activate without attaching your K Account to it.

If you buy direct, it forces you to attach your K account to it.

Yeah I understand how it works, and I know who I'm sharing with - mainly devices in the same household.
  1. If I send them an invite to their email - as it stands - data leak checker can't be disabled for whatever reason on my devices (Bug which they're investigating) - so that will randomly scan and kick off about data leaks - which will then panic them, which then means I have to explain etc. This is why i want to be able to turn this off!
  2. I could just use the activation code - have it setup as if it's my device, rather than it being shared - But again, without being able to disable data leak checker - it'll cause headaches.
My slight bug bear is the way the account thing is handled.

If I add a device using the activation code and connect it to my account.
  • It doesn't show the full email address of the account on the left of the GUI (it's partially starred out) until I've gone into the My Kaspersky account and confirmed this device. It's still in as a device, it's still protected, it still updates and data leak checker seems to be disabled. If I click through the application and go to manage my account, it basically wants me to login straight away with email and password.
  • The minute I accept/confirm the device - the account email address is shown in the GUI on the left, data leak checker is automatically turned on. If I click through the application and go to manage my account, it basically half logs me in and shows me all devices, all device settings etc - granted, these can't be changed until I've logged in with a password, but still. It allows me to download a copy of the application with the code baked in (This might not happen if the licence is shared using their email address)
Maybe the solution is for me to add the other devices and not confirm them within My Kaspersky. They're still classed as protected, they still appear to be able to get updates and are classed as having a valid licence - it just stops
  1. data leak checker from being turned on
  2. them from easily being able to see all device settings/licences etc in my Kaspersky (Not that I think they ever would, but, you know...)
  3. It doesn't show the full email address of the account in the GUI on the left. (Not that much of an issue tbh, be hadny if this could be hidden though, or changed from an email to just a name?)
Whether or not this will cause issue down the line or not, who knows?

You can still buy legit licenses very cheaply from third party sellers. Note that the following site doesn't sell outside Australia and the prices are in $AUD.

There's no Standard 10 device 1 year/2 year options on there.

The deal i got with Kaspersky direct was - Kaspersky Standard - 10 devices - 2 years for £14.40

With the Kaspersky Standard license, there is no automatic email check linked to your MyKaspersky account; you can only perform manual data leak checks. Therefore, turning off this feature is not applicable, as manual intervention is required for the feature to function.

I love how that information isn't made public or clear, either pre-sale or within the support section?

Surely you should still be able to disable it?

But it's not really clear that is can only be disabled on the Plus and Premium plans.

It's not mentioned on there either.

Surely, it should just be able to be disabled on all versions. I get on standard it doesn't auto scan, which is fine, but at least give me the option to fully disable it too, like you can on the higher plans?
