Umbra,

I am using Rollback Rx Pro 10.5 latest on Win 10 64 Pro Anniversary latest updates.

System Security - snapshots are encrypted & system is protected with password - Can ransomware infect Rollback Rx snapshots & does enabling System Security can protect snapshots from ransomware Or by default Rollback Rx protects snapshots?

If you try few hard shut down continue & likewise stuffs, Rollback Rx could be messed up But you know sometimes system freezes for some reason & you have to do hard shut down, Rollback Rx can handle those occasional/rare hard shut down? I mean its not like hard shut down will surely mess Rollback Rx, there must be some mechanism to handle occasional/rare hard shut down, right?

no, but if a malware manage to partition your HDD , you are done.

only successive hard shutdowns may mess up RX (like doing 4-5 shutdowns in a row)

Umbra,

Thank You for the info.

I uninstalled Rollback, don't know why I get black screen for few secs (app 10-15 secs) during boot if Rollback is installed?

With AX64 V2 no probs, so back to AX64.

because it need that time to set up itself creating virtual partitions...

With AX64 V2 no probs, so back to AX64.

of course , because AX64 doesn't create things like RX. their concept is different.

btw, do you know that AX company has collapsed and the soft is almost abandonned, do you?

Introducing AX64 Time Machine - hybrid imaging/snapshot software

Nice program but it is very easy to down your system. Should be careful working with this product. For twice I was about to crash OS but I could manage to recover. Bad thing that I don't have any utilities to recover OS. I am lazy to prepare recovery tools in advance..... So, if something bad happens I have to look for recovery tools or reinstall OS. Never happened such things with Acronis

On every boot, I get 10-15 secs black screen.
You mean on every boot it needs to set up itself?

I know about AX64, company, etc... Recently Devs posted on Wilders But nothing concrete on product development.
It works fine on Win 10 64 Anniversary, no probs yet.
I will see how it goes with further Win 10 builds.

Every boot? that shouldn't happen. Did you tried without any security softs installed?

.
Yes, I tried with Windows Defender only too And WD disabled too But the same results.

Previous 10.4 too was the same for me.
I thought to give a try to 10.5 But the same results.

Umbra,

I am trying again Rollback Rx Pro 10.5 on Win 10 64 Pro.

As usual with Rollback Rx Pro installed, I have -
1. Set Windows Updates to "Notify before download" with group policy.
2. Disabled System Restore.
3. Disabled Defrag.
4. Disabled Fast Startup.
5. Excluded Rollback Rx folder/files/processes, etc in RealTime & OnDemand AVs.

I am still getting few secs black screen during boot...I will see how it goes trying few days & decide to keep or not.

I have disabled the option "Show popup for scheduled task".
So I want to know, if Rollback Rx is taking snapshot & I shutdown system...it could mess Rollback Rx or Rollback Rx handles such scenario & taking screenshot will be cancelled?

And does BSOD, etc could affect Rollback Rx?

Few seconds is expected and acceptable on an HDD.

Yes it could mess with it , i wont even try this.

And does BSOD, etc could affect Rollback Rx?

one , no ; several in a row yes.

Umbra,

Is there any difference between performing rollback within GUI & performing rollback during boot?

And "Show popup for scheduled task" gives "OK" & "CANCEL" options on the popup.
OK means take snapshot & CANCEL means dont take snapshop, right?
So after hitting "OK" or popup auto-disappearing, it will start taking snapshot i.e during the time popup is there, its not taking snapshot, right?

technically , nope, during boot is theoretically safer because no other programs may interfere in the process.

To be honest , i disabled scheduled tasks because it will create too many snapshots and eat HDD space. i do all snapshot manually and only when needed.

I have enabled the option now "Show popup for task".
I have edited the task to create hourly backup for now & will see how it goes...snapshots are not big & I have protected only System i.e C drive.
I have disabled defrag during boot on creating/deleting number of snapshots, takes little time...will manually take care.

There is an option "Auto delete unlocked snapshots after selected number of days".
Any info how does it work?
Snapshots deleted during boot or normally i.e system running? And is deletion fast like creating snapshots? And do we get popup notification before deletion?
Coz system shut down during snapshots deletion too could mess Rollback, right?
So if any info on the above queries, good. Otherwise will disable the option & will manually take care of deleting snapshots.

And I am thinking to enable "System Security" or not?
Coz if enabled, it will require to enter password at 2 places to boot into the system, Rollback System Security & Windows User Logon (1 Admin Account).
Do you think, I should keep Rollback System Security & remove Windows User Logon password OR keep Windows User Logon & no need Rollback System Security?

it just delete unlocked snapshots , nothing special there

Deletion is instantaneous

Uninstalled Rollback & Back to AX64 V2

Yesterday I installed Driver Talent & repaired Card Reader Driver. I then restarted the system. After restart I got Rollback window "open protected file server failed" or something like this. I restarted the system again. After system restart, system was at previous snapshot i.e before Talent Driver installed. But action center mentioned "check system for errors". And start menu was little messed up. I tried chkdsk & got errors. I did a Rollback to one of the previous snapshot but after system restart got error something not found & insert OS disc. I then did a rollback to base snapshot (I had reinstalled Rollback after the recent Windows Updates so base point was recent). Things seemed fine But chkdsk showed errors. I uninstalled Rollback. After system restart, chkdsk was fine.

Avast IS too was corrupted & repair/uninstall mentioned setup is already running. I disabled Avast self-defense but it was auto-enabling again. I tried to end/force end the setup with Comodo KillSwitch but access denied. Then I downloaded Avast uninstall utility & was googling to enter into safe mode on Win 10 & then I thought to try to end Avast setup again but the good thing was Avast setup had disappeared from task manager And I was able to repair Avast.

All the trials & errors took app 5 hours. Atlast I could get the system back to normal.

Don't know if Driver Talent install or Card Reader Driver repair affected Rollback?

Rollback install don't have any folders in program data or users folders. Only a folder "Shield" in Program Files. After uninstall, 'Shield" folder has couple files remaining like something 128.dat, console, etc. I always delete "Shield" folder after Rollback uninstall. This time I didn't delete it thinking that settings, license, etc would be preserved for reinstall (nothing was preserved). Don't know if this was the issue?

Umbra,

I had 2-3 times probs with Rollback Rx.

I have noticed that when prob happens, sometimes snapshots restore dont restore properly or you get error, system error, etc... BUT I have noticed that "Base Snapshot" usually restores fine. "Base Snapshot" is locked, does this means locked snapshots are better than unlocked snapshots i.e locked snapshots are better protected than unlocked snapshots, etc... Or "Base Snapshot" has some kinda specific protection or privilege, etc...?

No, Locked or Unlocked are the same.

What version of RBRx are you using ?

What security softs are you using ?

Did you install those security softs before installing RBRx ?

Currently no probs. 2-3 times Probs, I meant my experience with Rollback RX 10.4 & 10.5 latest in the recent few months.

Currently I am running latest Rollback Pro 10.5
Avast Internet Security
Adguard Desktop
Win 10 64 Pro

AIS was already installed. I had disabled AIS protection to install Rollback. I have excluded AIS files/folder/processes under Avast exclusion - File Paths, CyberCapture & Hardened Mode.
