Hello !

With Fort Firewall Core, isolation must be disabled... Not with Portamster (+1).

which one do you use?

or which one do you choose?

I've tried both... For the moment, Portmaster seems more suitable because I use NextDNS resolvers.

I'd like to combine Portmaster and Fort Firewall... But I'm not sure they can coexist with Windows Firewall...

Thanks

Hello,

Both Safing Portmaster and Fort Firewall have their own strengths. If you're using NextDNS resolvers, Portmaster might be a better fit for you. As for combining both, it's generally not recommended to use multiple firewalls simultaneously as they can interfere with each other. Stick to one that best suits your needs.

PortMaster can locally filter dangerous hosts and IPs by subscriptions and work through secure DNS. I haven't used Fort Firewall, but what functionality in it do you find interesting that you would like to combine both of these solutions?

Portmaster is more a privacy suite than a firewall software, so the choice will depends on what you really need, I don't use Fort Firewall because as you mentioned it needs to disable core isolation, and I tried Portmaster, but it makes my connection slow, so if it didn't slow your internet connection I will prefer Portmaster.

Fort Firewall made me to lose internet, since it uses network and app rules, even uninstalling it did not help.
1. On fresh install the Fort Firewall works in "Auto-learn" mode and does not block any programs.
2. If you set the filter mode to "Block, if not allowed" and lose internet, then a first step is to allow a "DNSCache" service and review blocked connections in the Statistics window.
3. Fort Firewall removes all of its stuff on uninstall and can not block any connections after uninstallation. (But if you used a portable installation, then you have to uninstall it properly.)

I have recently settled on Fort Firewall as my preferred firewall solution, having previously tried Simplewall, Windows Firewall Control, Tinywall, Glasswire, and Portmaster.

I have not encountered similar issues in the past. Appreciate the insights that tnodir shared in his previous post as to why it might have happened.

Portmaster was not a suitable long-term solution for me due to its high memory usage. However, it did serve as a reliable alternative to Glasswire during my brief test.

I like FFw a lot but I opted for Portmaster again (interesting DNS filter for NextDNS resolver)...

I'm not saying that I'm closing the door on FFw for good...

too many alerts with FFw even if it's for security.
Or maybe I was having trouble configuring it... Too bad!

Safing Portmaster has been purchased by the sole owner of IVPN. The Portmaster software should remain OK as long as the original Safing development team creates and curates the code.

Once the IVPN owner makes changes to the development team, that's it. It's over for Portmaster.

Yeah, yeah. The IVPN owner states he will not makes changes to Safing Portmaster. He's made similar promises in the past, only to break them multiple times. Enjoy Portmaster while you can.

How will we know they've switched?
Anyway, Fort Firewall (FFw) is my fallback choice, if not my favorite...

Figures, since Portmaster was the one I was considering. From a previous version short test I figured it out in no time. I don't know anything about IVPN so can't comment.
I suppose I'll stick with Comodo FW for the time being. I'll bet nobody buys them.,

Using PortMaster Pro for a few and liking it, SPN and all. Enough options to tweak a little with plenty of information. Hopefully the sale doesn't affect the development in a negative way, I always have Sphinx Firewall to fall back on if need be.

Hello

Why choose Safing Portmaster?
Why choose Fort Firewall.

What are the fundamental differences? I've tested both (Portmaster and Ffw).
And for Portmaster, with fewer alerts and interesting DNS management... But the SPN blocks a lot of things...

So I'm thinking of staying for the moment with Ffw.

Even if the deactivation of memory isolation bothers me a bit. This third-party firewall is lighter...

Thanks

Tried both a while ago; currently using simplewall.
Fort firewall has a nice, not complicated UI, but gave me bugs with Avast rules and do not have interactive popup through which you allow or block any program or service trying to connect.
Portmaster was even worse, enigmatic UI and settings, and high resources consumption.
