Question Saftey of using Symantec endpoint protection

Please provide comments and solutions that are helpful to the author of this topic.
Is not SEP sufficient as FW and IPS?
SEP is only protecting the device it is installed on. Therefore your computer. The rest of your devices on the network are unprotected if your Router's firewall isn't configured correctly. That's why you need a hardware Firewall or a Router with a build in firewall that is configured correctly. The Router I use has some additional security features that are nice to have but are not essential imo: ASUS Network Security – AiProtection and Router Security | ASUS Global

@Vitali Ortzi isn't referring to the Antivirus product "Sohpos Home" but to the Firewall of Sophos for home use that you can set up on an old computer or laptop that you don't use anymore: Cybersecurity as a Service Delivered | Sophos

Same… I’ve got the AXE7800. Very disappointingly, the two-way IPS does not support HTTPS traffic. Trend Micro pushes almost daily signatures for their IPS divided in Network Content Inspection Pattern and Network Critical Content Pattern. Asus updates them about once-twice a month. And not even automatically.

Noticed the irregular updates too but for me it updates automatically but only once or twice a month.

That is too much setup; I welcome port scanners 😟
It's not that difficult. Normally a router should come preconfigured and doesn't need much configuration at all. Maybe consider resetting the whole router and see what changes it does to it's security settings. A working firewall within the router is a must have nowadays.

My modem router was recently reset to factory settings with changing its password and its firewall is always set to the maximum level.

Can you imagine someone predicting Norton would become an Avast clone just a while back? lol

Symantec once developed highly respectable tech, but it's sad to say I'm not anticipating Broadcom to revolutionize SEP. It's beginning to feel like an out-of-place antique, especially the UI.

They have to fix more than its UI; it has relatively high FP rate, especially for web protection, CPU spikes, glitches, updates frequency.

The management console of SEP which is used by MSPs and admins is fresh and looks good.

The client interface is just supplementary.
Though admittedly, many other vendors have built better consoles too.

I also use Asus AX56U AI Protection. It's a lifetime security from Trend Micro. I can't complain more. Combined with the VPN director, even sweeter.

AV/ Endpoints only protect the host machine. Having a seperate security in the gateway is the ideal multi-layer approach.
