Samsung’s latest slate comes equipped with a 10.5-inch WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200) resolution TFT display driven by an unnamed CPU and GPU platform that are each 10 percent faster than what was found in the Galaxy Tab A7, which was a Snapdragon 662.

Memory and storage configurations will vary by region, but expect to see any combination of the following: 3GB of RAM with 32GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage or 4GB of RAM with 128GB of storage. All models additionally feature a microSD slot that accepts up to 1TB capacity cards.

The Tab A8 affords Wi-Fi 5 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth v5.0 and on select models, LTE wireless connectivity. A 7040mAh battery offers up to 15W fast charging (fast charging adapter sold separately), although Samsung stopped short of citing battery life expectations.

Buyers also get an integrated quad-speaker system with Dolby Atmos and a 3.5mm audio jack as well as a single front-facing 5-megapixel camera and one 8-megapixel shooter with autofocus. All variants will ship running Android 11.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A8 will be offered in pink gold, silver and gray color schemes in Europe later this month before expanding to other regions including the US in January 2022.

Samsung has revealed a refresh to its budget-focused Galaxy Tab A line with improved performance, a larger display, more storage and new multitasking features to help it appeal to a wider audience, all without a price increase – in the UK, anyway.

Here’s everything there is to know about the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 right now, from release date to pricing and the top new features. If you’re looking for Samsung’s next high-end tablet, we cover the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 rumours separately.

When will the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 be released?

Following a mid-December reveal, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 will be released in late December in Europe and on 4 January 2022 in the UK and US.

How much will the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 cost?

Framed as Samsung’s budget tablet offering, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 starts at the same £219 as its predecessor in the UK, and although the tablet is also due to be released in the US, US pricing is yet to be confirmed.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 performance

Pricing isn't the only detail Samsung is keeping under wraps for now. The company has also decided to not (yet) officially confirm what processor will be in the Galaxy Tab A8, noting only that it will be a 2GHz octacore chip.

However, there's decent reason to believe it could be the Unisoc Tiger T618, an octacore SoC (system on a chip) with speeds that top out at 2GHz. That's what was tipped to power the tablet when the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 specs leaked earlier this year, and so far nearly everything in that leak has proven accurate.

Whatever ends up inside the Tab A8, it will almost certainly be more powerful than the Qualcomm SM6115 SoC that powered the old A7. However, it's unlikely to offer much competition against the A13 Bionic chip powering Apple's 2021 iPad.
