Each are similar, and I have Time Freeze on my old XP. I've not noticed much because XP sleeps all day.:D From what I've read, more people prefer Shadow Defender over Time Freeze. The best method is to try them both in order to decide which is best for you.

I have installed SD.
I unchecked "start with windows" in the GUI.
There is an entry in msconfig-startup, can I uncheck that?

no, you shouldn't because SD need to start at startup if you use Shadow Mode in persistence mode; learn the product before doing stuff...

Be sure to keep in mind that everything done is shadow mode becomes just 'that', a shadow that's temporary which disappears as soon as you exit from the shadows in order to update and set changes you'll wish to keep. It's as easy on your system as it is fun using browsers & programs you won't have anymore when you exit SD!:D

I installed it and had no problems at all.No junk software along with it that I could see.Bitdefender had no problems with it either.It is the latest version.There is no Key it is Pre Activated.Here is imagine:
