That was fast...Went back to Windows -- despaired of getting linux apps to do what I need, and tired of living in a Windows VM.

Arch Linux is the most complicated to install. It is not for those who come from Windows.If you want debian based distro then try mint cinnamon or based on Arch Linux; Manjaro (anything but KDE)
