I can't seem to get anything to work at a reasonable rate, everything is slow and unresponsive. oh, right, my computer also seems to reset when I am not looking, I still do no know why. It has done this about 4 times now, each while I was doing a lengthy scan and went away to get something to eat. I saw Dllhost COM Surrogate in my task manager and after looking that up, I fear the worst and I really need help! Though unlike other examples I have seen, my instances of Dllhost are usually short lived as it goes on and off a few times. My CPU Usage seems to be stuck at 0% like my computer just isn't doing anything. Aside from the Dllhost, I have no idea what it could be so I could really use some help on this.

I should have the FRST+Addition scan logs ready some time after I post this, just getting it out there first as it is taking a long time to scan.

Thanks a bunch in advance

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:
  • At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
  • Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
  • Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
  • Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.
  • All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
  • If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
  • I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
  • Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.
  • Please attach all report using
    fjqb1h.png
button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay for the repair.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Hi, TwinHeadedEagle and thanks for the quick response, unfortunately at this time the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool is still running, so I don't have a complete report to upload. However there is a FRST file on my desktop, though I do not know if I should send it. (common sense tells me 'no, not while the associated program is still running' ) At this time I would like to mention that the Tool has been running for more than 3 hours with fluctuating efficiency due to it (along with most of my programs) 'not responding' periodically.

I could try but several minutes after posting, the scan completed, here are the log files. I will still attempt to run safe mode if you request it after this.

I do not see malware infection here. Based on the errors below this is more likely to be hardware related problem, maybe malfunctioned hard drive or heating problem.

Error: (02/23/2015 10:25:44 AM) (Source: atapi) (EventID: 11) (User: )
Description: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort1.

Yea? I don't think it is over heating, but a Hard Drive malfunction, that's kinda big. Do you know any way I can check to be certain?

Yes, we can try.

  • Please download HD Sentinel and unpack archive
  • Install it using standard procedure
  • Run program when installation is complete
  • Maximize program window and select S.M.A.R.T tab
  • At the left side select your primary hard drive and make a ScreenShot of whole window

I've managed to copy the HD Sentinal setup onto my external HD however whenever I attempt to open it or extract it, Winzip simply crashes. (apologies for the late reply, I passed out as I have lost a lot of sleep waiting for my computer to respond and it took me over 2 hours on this latest attempt)

it says 'cannot open file. It does not appear to be a valid archive. if you downloaded this file, try downloading the file again."
I have tried downloading it a few times and get the same message.

Neither do I. I will try to trouble shoot some solutions, Thank you for your time and help. Just knowing it's not a virus and probably a problem with my HD is a great help, at least I can start trying to fix it! Thanks again!
