Solved Start Menu Updated Pop-Up | Lenovo Specific Related Issue

I checked the removal guide on this site that refers to the Start Menu Update pop-up, but can't proceed past step 1, since I have a Lenovo, who seems to be pretty reliant on Pokki programs. It's also the reason I don't have a scan log from AdwCleaner yet, since this is part of step 2. I've had programs/apps like Spotify, an actual Start Menu and Netflix since the very first boot-up and therefore I don't know whether I should remove all Pokki programs through Control Panel -> Programs and Features as advised, because I fear it might have a negative effect on my entire system. However, the problem seems very much like it's Pokki related. So what should I do? Skip part 1 in Control Panel or follow the guide completely?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that there was no pop-up after booting up Windows this time. I also no longer have a Start Menu, Netflix, Spotify and PC App Store icon at the taskbar (but for some strange reason Spotify did start up).

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Spotify is not malware, you can it disable from startup.

Click Start, copy in search msconfig click tab startup and uncheck Spotify. Apply/OK and reboot.

I did that and everything went very well. No more pop-ups, everything seems to be going faster and smoother too. It's no problem if I want Spotify to start up anyway right?
And I still have Kaspersky disabled, can I turn it on now?

And of course, thanks for your help.

Yes and yes :)

The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the tool by right click on the
    51a5ce45263de-delfix.png
icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run and wait until the tool completes his work.
  • All tools we used should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt)
The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

Done. And again, thank you very much for the help. Didn't expect to get a response today, let alone having everything fixed, but everything went swiftly and smoothly. Everything is working great, even better than before, so I'm very happy now. :)
