Two movies really gave me sleepness nights as a child. First one was "Theatre of Blood" with Vincent Price. Reason being in one scene he hides in the wardrobe until the victim is asleep and then procedes to cut off the man's head with a saw. After watching that I had to keep my wardrobe door open for a long time and check it a was empty before going to bed.
Second film was "Salem's Lot" with David Soul. A film about vampires. I was happily watching it and not being particularly scared when out of the blue the lead vampire suddenly popped up on screen and I've never been so scared. I hid behind the sofa and wouldn't come out until my parents had switched off the video.

Today these films would be tame to say the least but back when I was very young they scared the living daylights out of me.

Even decades later I don't think I could watch Salems Lot :(

By far the most disturbing movie I have ever seen and not really a Horror flick is "A Serbian Film" with an NC17 rating and banned in 19 countries you will never be the same after viewing this film. This film is not for those under the age of 18 or those who are easily offended.
Very disturbing indeed.:eek::eek: Probably the most disturbing film ever. I suggest everyone to not see this film. Because if you do, you'll regret it for your entire life. :(

This is the first horror movie i ever saw and still remember it vividly even after all these years. Scars of Dracula (1970) - IMDb
Mighty Christopher Lee ! :) I remember that movie as probably the first horror film I've watched alone as a kid. I needed to go to the bathroom and I couldn't as I thought the bat will appear, go after me and byte me... ah, the real fear :)

Atmospherically
  • The Haunting of Hill House 1963
as well as an assortment of Vampire films (I too remember, and share, frogboy's frightful memory) of

Then there was
We'd missed it's initial run, so when our local theater re-released it a few years later, a small group of us boys paid $1 to get scared in the middle of a summer day!:D The water was never a safe place again (not even in the shower) for years to come... and the ocean? :rolleyes:Forget about it.:p
There was a pervading lingering fear that the innocent were helpless against real evil, and could be randomly forsaken..

The fascination, and not being able to look away, even though I wanted to because of what people are capable of doing to others which make them real monsters.
The following films (on the other hand) made me laugh a great deal!:D

If you think of it as art it heals the scars :D I think the most disturbing thing about the movie is that there really are people like that in the world.I have seen enough of it to last me 3 lives.
That is far more disturbing to me than the film itself.I do agree though that it is the one and only film I could never watch again.Unless you are thick skinned like an alligator then you could do without seeing this during your lifetime.

Awesome Thread.. :)
I am a massive Movie fan... I have seen 10,000+ and own 2000+
There are very few scary or genuinely disturbing Horror Movies IMO..
Among the ones that I have enjoyed are;

The Phantom Carriage (Swe) (1921)
Frankenstein (1931)
Dead of Night (1945)
The Devil Rides Out (1968)
The Wicker Man (1973)
The Exorcist (1973)
Suspiria (1977)
The Changeling (1980)
The Thing (1982)
Poltergeist (1982)
Videodrome (1983)
Phenomena (1985)
The Fly (1986)
Audition (Jap) (1999)
The Ring (Jap) (2002)
Ju-On; The Grudge (Jap) (2002)
[REC] (Spa) (2007)

The Only Horror Movies that genuinely disturbed me are:

Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
Men Behind the Sun (1988)
Irreversible (Fra) (2002): The only movie that I have ever had to pause to take a break from because I was in tears and shaking.
The Orphanage (Spa) (2007): The ending absolutely destroyed me.
Martyrs (Fra) (2008)
A Serbian Film (2010): The kind of movie that will prompt debate about what subject matters should be used in a film..but it was IMO genuinely disturbing.

Second that! Pice of **** that gets you in a bad mood for a month!
My favourite though is:
#1 Alien! Just love it. But then i´m a SciFi fan. Just wish there were more good quality SciFi films made. Most are just pathetic!

Battle royal directed by Kinji Fukasaku is also a film well worth to see! Maybe not a true horrormovie but still very good!

if you are talking about disturbing movies you should watch these : human centipede 1-2-3 , nekromantik 1-2 , schramm , violent ##### 1-2-3 and violent ##### the movie. there are some japanese flicks that will go to town also : machine girl - tokyo gore police - meatball machine - the untold story - gunnia pig and so on. but a serbian movie is really shocking too!

speaking of asian horror , here is an absolute cult classic and very obscure : horror and martial arts in one movie! you can definately see the lack of acting quality and that the budget to make this movie was not big , but the gore effects are amazing! " the story of Ricky " aka oh-Rick-oh.....enjoy!

Cannibal Holocaust is one of the best also.In fact at the time it was released they were investigating the director because they thought they actually killed real people in the movie. It also sparked controversy from animal rights groups because they did actually kill real animals or so it appeared that they did.
Human centipede is quite gruesome but on the disturbing meter nothing surpasses "A Serbian Film"
"I spit on your grave" the original & the 2010 remake are quite entertaining also.
I don't think anyone mentioned the original Omen.

That's very kind of you, buy I don't go anywhere without garlic on my possession. You never know when you might need it. I've watched the documentary series True Blood so I know they really do exist and live among us!!

The film is an abomination. I can see no sane reason for it ever being made, other than to offend everyone who watches it.
If you are entertained and not offended by it then please do not follow me or like any of my posts.

I would hope nobody is entertained by it.However every film is made for a reason one way or another and I imagine that film was made with a point. That point being that there are actually people like that and people who pay money to watch it and the twisted state of sexuality in the world today.
The sad truth is that there is a market for pornographic "snuff" films and there are real people in the world today who make them.
I won't rant on but if you look at all the missing men, women and children in the US alone, where do they all go?
Some are killed yes but the majority are sold for snuff films, child pornography, sex slavery and believe it or not cults.Cults that use them for human sacrifice.
You are better off not watching the film but I don't really think anyone here is entertained by it or at least I would like to think so.
