ESET could do a lot by coming with a bunch of common rules, such as documents protection for instance, pre-configured. Make an advanced setting to activate these rules and you improve the protection a lot. ESET is certainly a top tier protection if you have the knowledge and patience to configure it.
Please help me to configure my ESET SMART SECURITY PREMIUM BETA. I have unlimited license that renews yearly. ESET Beta is the most stable beta antivirus software. Never gave me a problem.

The home user should NOT be diving into settings below other settings to make something work properly, it should provide decent protection out of the box.
ESET nowadays is overrated. And this is coming from someone that has a soft spot for it because I remember using it from back in the day (Nod32 era).

There are plenty of decent security solutions in the market, for all budgets and preferences, the differences in protection % are very small.
Just my 2 cents..
Oh... I am using unlimited ESET SMART SECURITY PREMIUM BETA with PREMIUM ZEMANA ANTILOGGER LIFETIME License. And I am a careful user. So I should be safe.

ESET detected 97.9% zero-day malware. A total of 282 samples were tested in the zero-day test. So ESET at least blocked 276 threats out of 282. So it missed 6 zero-day threats. This is pretty good for a product that is kind of fully reliant on signatures, heuristics only. Malicious web URL and email threats were tested here so every product's web protection modules (those who have it) also came into play.
ESET missed less than 6 zero-day samples in other recent AV-Test's results so this one was worse. I want ESET to do better than this but then again, the chance of getting infected by a zero-day malware in a home environment is close to zero. So, no need for a happy ESET user to switch to another AV after seeing this test. ESET scored almost perfect in the widespread and prevalent malware test. ESET is just fine at default settings. It's not the best but surely one of the best.

Marcos of the ESET forum teased an upcoming feature coming to ESET Smart Security Premium users in the next product update. Quoting him,

Another regular member there speculated that it could be something like ESET Dynamic Threat Defense (EDTD) which is available in ESET's Endpoint products at an extra fee. It could be something else too. We can't really know until they officially announce it or maybe push it to beta testers.
WOW! SO I will get it as I am a user of ESET SMART SECURITY PREMIUM BETA .... for a lifetime :)

Why pay if I could get it FREE? For 3 devices :)

I wouldn't use a beta AV (or any beta high privilege software with hooks to my kernel) even if they were paying me.
I prefer stability.

Well, I don't even know if they will release this feature to beta testers. It seems they use a third-party service for the Dynamic Threat Defense feature in the Endpoint products. So this feature costs ESET some extra money. Anyway, if they do and since you're a beta tester, you'll probably know about it earlier than I do.

Virtual test Vs real Life

If I have to give you advice about what antivirus you should use in your home PC, I will recommend Kaspersky.
My word is so good has the word of SeriousHoax, venustus, etc. Why fallow my advice or any other user advise in this site, or any review, what guarantee can I give you or other user about the best AV.
So, I am not a regular user. My mom is a regular user, my girlfriend is a regular user, I am a dangerous user, a very dangerous user.
I use torrents a lot, games with cracks, a have a crush on personalization I use scripts to remove ribbon or the icons from system tray third party scripts with no certificate, I see porno, I am a nightmare user for AV companies.
And Kaspersky keep me safe all this year's, so I recommend KIS not because some AV test put this AV in first or second place, but because it protected me all this year's in real life.

Sorry for my English.

Thank you. For now, after more than a year of use and plenty of software installations, no issues with ESET so far. Their BETA is more stable than other products.

Thank you. Doesn't matter if I don't get it. What I need is a Backup solution for I don;t have any.

Yeah. Rumor has it that EDTD will be added to ESET Smart Security Premium in Version 15.

All Beta versions are precursors of final products. They are intended for testing purposes and should not be run on production systems that contain important data. This software may not be used for comparative product testing, product reviews or benchmark testing without the prior written consent of ESET, spol. s r.o.

Yeah, Kaspersky is great and more so for dangerous users like you said. Since you talked about cracks, I should also add that Kaspersky is the most pirated user-friendly AV out there. This is a kind of compliment because what I mean is that it doesn't usually detect true cracks of apps and games that are not malicious. While some other products are a bit aggressive and delete a handful of cracks automatically eg: Bitdefender. I often recommend such users to use nothing but Kaspersky, free or paid.
