RE: thepiratedon's Main Config

Is it ok to have both kaspersky & malwarebytes pro as realtime protection?
As it is now, I have both kaspersky configured as "Jamescv7" linked to and malwarebytes pro protection enabled
In kaspersky I have excluded malwarebytes and in Malwarebytes kaspersky is on the ignore list.

RE: thepiratedon's Main Config

Well as to be a safe side, KIS can managed to do well since its a suite so all features were there and MBAM is better to be a scanner for second opinion.

What does that mean?
Not to run Malwarebytes protection module?

RE: thepiratedon's Main Config

Yes, even though its known likely to be complement with other AV. Cause your using suite so assume you must have a confidence on it.

There Application Control is the good feature for KIS as you can set any unknown files to untrusted thus it would not run.

RE: thepiratedon's Main Config

Just put MBAM as a scanner. Kaspersky is very good so you do not need an additional layer. Try linkscanner on the desktop too.

thepiratedon's 3rd config

Hi everybody!

I'm re-installing one of my laptops and would like some suggestions on what security to use on it.

the main thing is that it should all be free.

so what do you recommend?

This is what i'm thinking.
==================
Example config 1:
Google Chrome, CCleaner & AVG (Don't know what firewall)

Example config 2:
Comodo Dragon, Comodo System Utilities, CIS

after this I have no clue...

Comp is going to be used in risky enviroments, like: open wifi's, poker playing online, etc.

RE: thepiratedon's 3rd config

Hmm. For a free trouble free config use this.
Browser:Dragon/Chrome.
AV:CIS
Avg linkscanner.
For tuneup I will suggest Tuneup Utilities 2011 which can be obtained for free through a promo(just google)

RE: thepiratedon's 3rd config

Hm...

Since you said you're going to be in a risky enviroment I would suggest that you use:

Browsers:
Google Chrome
Comodo Dragon
Firefox

AV's (in terms of Free):
Avast Free w/ Comodo Firewall
CIS

AV'S (In terms of Paid):
Norton Internet Security
Kaspersky Internet Security
Bitdefender Internet Security

On Demand:
Malwarebytes (Strongly suggest that you pay the cheap price and get the lifetime license for Pro)
Hitman Pro
SAS

I would put these on a flash drive:
CCE
Emsisoft Emergency Kit

Cleaners:
CCleaner
Advanced System Care
Auslogics Disk Defrag

Web Protection/Addons:
AVG LinkScanner
Ad Block Plus

RE: thepiratedon's 3rd config

For browsers I think that Google Chrome will be good, with the addons like, Ghostery, Adblock-Plus, WOT. As for an AV I think that would have to be up to you. You could give Avast free a try, or I guess give CO-MO-DO a go.

RE: thepiratedon's 3rd config

Just some suggestions:

Browser : Chrome with AdBlock Plus or AdBlock

Free Browser ID Protection : HMP.Alert (beta) or PrevX SafeOnline

Don't need AVG LinkScanner, waste of resources, unneeded site safety ratings next to search results, and Chrome provides better protection (from my testing).

Other suggestions:

Use a secure VPN for Open WiFi hotspots.

SpyShelter Personal Free - Link

Prey Open-Source Anti-Theft - Link

Sandboxie - Link

RE: thepiratedon's 3rd config

You could have a look at my alternative or secondary config. You will need to look in the pages though.

RE: thepiratedon's 3rd config

Free AV's like AVG, Avast, Avira, Panda Cloud Free or MSE. (Matter of your choice as they have good detection and complement with common sense to avoid infection)

RE: thepiratedon's 4th config

You could add the following (simply search name in google for the actual links):

Upgrade to Windows 7 SP1 if you have not yet upgraded.

On demand scanner: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Emsisoft Emergency Kit.

Backup solution: Paragon Backup and Recovery Free or EaseUS Todo Backup or Macrium Reflect Free. If paid you can also choose Acronis Home.

Virtualization: Sanboxie or Bufferzone Pro.

Browser Extenstion: WOT

DNS Services: DNS Jumper to switch between DNS services.

System maintenance: CCleaner, QuickSys Reg Defrag, IObit Advanced System Care Free.

Uninstaller: IObit Uninstaller or Revo Uninstaller Free.

Folder/File unlock: Unlocker 1.9.1

If you are looking for a real time protection alternative, we will need more information for your needs.

Firefox anonymous and secure addons config

Hi everyone!
My question is:

How should I secure my anonymously browsing with firefox?
I am currently using these addons:

.Adblock plus (subscribed to all filters)
.WOT (default settings)
.Ghostery (Block everything)
.Hidemyass (for surfing anonymously - encrypted settings)

Is this good? I use hidemyass since I don't wanna setup a vpn on my computer.

RE: Firefox anonymous and secure addons config

I like the setup that you currently have. :) only thing is have you got a backup solution? or are you using the Windows 8 backup feature?
