AND herein lies the rub. Majority of people only think about what cyber criminals would want from THEM. What if I don't care about you but you are the easiest means for me to accomplish what I want? Do not think for one sec that perps would give a crap about your family, your unborn child or anyone else. But even if they hack me, they will discover that I'm just a regular person, so what will they do? It's like attempting to take something from someone who has nothing.
For them this is a kudos if you are a nation state or a future windfall if you are just a random perp organization going after something.
Also do not think that gathering data about "you" is to perform any actionable cyber "attack" against you. What if the "cyber attack" is in the means of gathering data about you so we can approach you (dating app, random stranger on Facebook similar interests etc) to now see if you can be recruited and by recruited I do not mean $$$ and an hourly wage. I mean just a simple thing: "wow you work with X? My employer is looking at X but everything I've read stated that X has those vulnerabilities or those POSSIBLE methods of compromise thus we think that the best thing to go with is Y unless you have some better guidance? Honestly I proposed X once and almost got laughed out of the CIO meeting and I've been itching to prove my boss otherwise! We are currently deploying it as/in such way is that correct? What should I change? How is your deployment? It you don't want to talk about let take it to DM.
Or. They DM you for more sensitive questions.
