Serious Discussion TuxTalk - Eset Smart Security Premium Thread

Holy cow. I literally shared a screenshot of the module "Ransomware Remediation"

So once and for all. It is only available in business products and the Ultimate plan for home users. 😌
Yep, time to bury this one in the sand, too 😂

It's great to see some of you exploring the true power of Eset, particularly its ability to create custom rules. Eset has always been one of my top choices, because if layered security is needed, as it was on my host testing machine, it provides exactly the protection required for both the system and the network.

I see your comments regarding ESET getting better and I feel nostalgia, this used to be my favourite AV.

Sadly, I ended up dropping it since it was extremely weak on default, and the only way to make it more "secure" was to enable HIPS interactive mode, which is not only a pain in the butt, but it's not user friendly, and certainly not for average home users.

Has someone tested it thoroughly and can confirm it's somewhere near decent, compared to the market leaders?

@Trident did some testing and shadowra did.

It always was and still is a really solid product. Besides Deep Instinct the most stable AV I've used.

I am concerned about his Behavior Blocker, which is still not improving. It bothers me that the hips module is not activated in intelligent by default, but in automatic. They should remove the automatic mode and leave the smart one as default.

What you’re describing is ESET’s default setup, which is configured for usability while minimizing prompts and interruptions. That doesn’t mean it’s weak, intermediate to advanced users can create custom HIPS and firewall rules to significantly increase protection.

As for the forum ‘tests,’ none of them truly test the full route of infection or tweak the settings to see ESET’s real capabilities, they usually come up with excuses for both.

Personally, I’d be curious to know how you determined that ESET is weak in its default settings. Did you actually test it yourself, or are you relying on the tests posted here?
