Briefly explain your current issue(s)
hibernate doesn't work
Steps taken to resolve, but have been unsuccessful
none
Ubuntu 15.10 64-bit (yes, still more problems )

When I click "hibernate" on the power menu, I can see that there is disk activity, then the machine powers down.

When I boot it up, it asks for my decryption password. Then, there is more disk activity. Finally, I see a black screen, with my laptop running pretty loudly.

This is hibernation pretty much every time. With Nvidia 960M drivers, always. With Intel integrated, I've seen it work, but now it's not working anymore.

I think problem is in kernel. 3.13 Kernel have a issue with hibernation on some devices. What Kernel are you using (type uname -a to terminal)? Are you using AMD/Nvidia non-free drivers? Try update kernel to newest.
