Hi Everybody,

I have a strange problem. Last week I bought a new HP laptop, and set it up, everything was ok until I used Revo Free to remove the unwanted MS apps. I removed all the apps I don't use, like Clip Champ, Outlook, Windows clock, all of that went OK. I also removed the Xbox apps. I did the scans to remove leftover files from the apps too, same as I have done on several other computers. When that was done I found that the MS Store would not open, it had been removed but I did not remove it myself. The store is not even on the list of MS apps you can remove with Revo anyway.

I wonder if removing Xbox somehow took out the store with it but I have never had that problem before. I tried everything I could think of to reinstall the store, did a lot of Google searching, nothing worked and the laptop finally threw a Bitlocker error asking me for my Bitlocker ID, which I didn't have. I reinstalled Windows from a USB and it went ok until it got to the screen to sign on to my wifi, it could not detect my network, it said "Let's get you connected to a network" but the rest of the page was blank. I tried installing Windows again and got the same error. I think something happened that damaged the wifi adapter. I returned the laptop to Best Buy, told them about the wifi error and left it at that, exchanged it for another HP the same as the first one and did the same setup on it using Revo. After using Revo on that one, the MS Store was ok but the HP Audio Center was missing. I tried to reinstall it but never could get it to work. I went back to Best Buy and got a refund on that laptop.

I have a new Lenovo on order and would like to remove the bloat on it too but I am worried that there might be a problem with Revo now. I don't know if Revo took out the store and the audio center when I removed Xbox or some of the other useless MS apps, or is Revo ok and this was just an HP specific problem. HP seems to be kind of picky about what they will let you do. Both HP laptops were in S Mode, I took them out of S Mode but I don't know if that had anything to do with the missing Store and Audio Center. I don't want to have this same kind of problem with the new Lenovo. Has anyone here seen this kind of uninstaller app-removing issue before?

Thanks for any help on this.

Hi C.H.,

It seems like you've had quite the ordeal. In general, Revo Uninstaller is a reliable tool for removing unwanted applications. However, some apps are deeply integrated with the system and removing them could potentially affect other apps or system functionalities. The issue you faced could be related to the specific HP laptops or the particular apps you removed.

As for your new Lenovo, I'd suggest being selective about what you remove. Stick to obvious bloatware and avoid removing system-related apps. Also, consider creating a system restore point before using Revo, so you can revert back if anything goes wrong.

Hope this helps!

I have a problem with Revo Uninstaller Free too when I tried to remove Lenovo Vantage app in the past, it broke all my Windows store apps even the Microsoft store itself and I needed to restore my apps again.

I don't recommend using Revo or any 3rd party apps to remove Windows store apps, all have problems because all of them are stored in the same folder "WindowsApps" so 3rd party uninstallers will think they are related in a way or other.

You can use O&O AppBuster to debloat Windows store apps without any problems.

Here are some related threads from my experience may help you;

Thanks for the links, I think this time around with the new laptop I will just use the Windows default removal. And not delete any system apps. The new Lenovo will have 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD so any impact from installed apps or leftover files from any removed apps probably will not matter very much. I might run the O+O app buster, I like how it shows whether it's recommended to delete an app. It even shows a red caution button on the XBox Game Bar so maybe XBox is somehow integrated with the MS Store and I made a mistake or was just plain ignorant when I removed all the Xbox apps on the HP. I have used Revo and also removed Xbox with Revo before without any trouble so I have no idea how these HP problems happened. O+O looks good though.

Thanks.

I've removed Windows Apps before with Total Uninstaller, HiBit Uninstaller, IObit Uninstaller and Uninstalr, with no issues. I've never used Revo to uninstall them though.

I got my new laptop on Friday. I set it all up, did the updates and even udated to 24H2. I did not use Revo though, didn't even download it. I just used the removal or disable functions in the Windows Apps settings. I left most of the apps alone other than just turning them off, but I did remove a few. I turned off Xbox but did not remove it. The laptop is running just as fast and effeciently as it would if I had removed the unwanted apps with Revo. I did download O+O Appbuster, I can't remember for sure but I think I just used it to get rid of Clip Champ and Solitaire. So far I have not had any problems with the Windows Store or anything else.

I have never found 3rd party uninstallers to do a great job of uninstalling store apps. I clean installed 24H2 2 weeks ago and I uninstalled excessive store apps just fine using Windows only.

I only had to manually uninstall Remote Desktop Connection and install paid HEVC, I know that $1 will ruin me, but I had to do it, for Netflix. 😶‍🌫️

The stuff I do after a clean install. Disabling Defender and Stupid App Control is basics! 🤷‍♂️
