The store was developed using HTML5 so that the PSN Store team can enhance the app seamlessly without the need for major firmware updates. - Source

I suppose that's a good start use for HTML5, hope to see more improvements for PSN.

Edit: The new Store is magnificent compared to the old one, the UI is fast and fluid.
