Hey guys. This UrbanVPN gives free servers in lots of, mora than 80 so to speak, locations/countries, and has no limit on usage or speed for windows version. Should I worry about anything?

I use it so let me answer some of the questions you all might have.

Why do I use it?

Well, it's free. Since I don't really need a VPN, I have no interest in paying one. I use it only for unblocking geoblocked websites, nothing else.

Is it malicious?

I can't talk about their client because I only use their extension and it's more than enough for me. But the extension itself I find safe enough.

Does it really work?

Yes and no. While connecting to popular locations like the US, UK, France, Germany work very well, some less popular either don't work all the time or just connects you to the IP address belonging to some other country (like... you connect to China, but it gives you Indian IP).
To get the right IP address, you have to connect/disconnect/connect again and again until you eventually get it. Every time you connect visit a website like WhatIsMyIPAddress.com to see if you got correct IP address.

What's the speed like?

Not sure. I haven't really tested the speed that much. But regarding speed of opening websites, it's fast enough. I'd say the speed depends how far away is the location you're connecting to.

Does it have any limits?

I haven't found one. But again, I use it only for unblocking geoblocked websites. As soon as I'm done with the website, Urban VPN is off.

What about privacy?

It's far from 100% anonymous VPN as they claim because they collect pretty much everything they can. I'm person who cares about privacy and will turn off everything I can regarding data collection, no matter which software or extension I use. This is also the reason why I have Urban VPN disabled at all times in my browser and I only enable it if I need to use it.

Any recommendations?

Yes.

Want to access geoblocked website, but your free VPN doesn't have servers in that particular country? Fear not! Just do what I do—connect to your trustworthy VPN (Proton VPN, Windscribe...) and then connect to Urban VPN through their browser extension. Urban VPN will still collect pretty much everything, but because you're using a VPN they'll have no idea that it was you as they only get your VPN IP address.

I used it recently to activate Kaspersky because I bought the serial cheap in another country (an online Australian store; you have to activate in the country where you bought it), and UrbanVPN has the most countries to choose from.

I'd recommend avoiding this, as they log a lot of data. The following review is worth reading. Just don't pay too much attention to the VPNs they recommend, as VPN Mentor is owned by Kape technologies, who own their top four ranked VPNs.

A long time ago, UrbanVPN was detected as a PUP by some antivirus software.
Besides, I prefer to avoid VPNs that are totally free. Paying for servers takes money...
I wouldn't be surprised if they resell connection data.

If a product is free, you are the actual product being sold.
I disagree. That's what paid software/marketing gurus would have you believe. Sadly, you are just the bait in their clever trap to spend $$ on.

There are hundreds of awesome freeware projects out there, crafted by passionate developers who doesn't care about your dirt. You should check them out sometime.

(I'd love to see examples of paid software that doesn't harvest your data). The very O.S you run the software's on, does it so.

Exactly! You can still use commercial software and still be a product yourself. Literal example: all Microsoft's products.

While there are lots of great free apps and use plenty myself, I'm not aware of any trustworthy free VPNs. The only exception to this, is that there are some trustworthy paid VPNs such as Proton VPN and Windscribe, which also provide a limited free service.

They are both very good VPNs as they have a strong emphasis on privacy. If you're going to pay for a VPN, I highly recommend that before buying a long subscription, you try the VPN for a month. That way you can see if you have any issues such as a noticeable drop in internet speed, are unable to access some websites, or have some issues with the VPN app.

IMHO - IVPN & OVPN which I use at the moment as regards privacy probably the best - OVPN gives you a photo of the server you can connect to & has no hard dives.

I tried ovpn several months ago, but I let it go (don't recall why) then I few days ago I discovered a network bottleneck on my host hardware and it seems that ovpn had changed network dns in host OS network, so I was seemingly pulling dns from Sweden while my location is in US. I don't recall that I had manually configured dns for Sweden so I assume ovpn app had changed it and then left it when I uninstalled it.
