While there are lots of great free apps and use plenty myself, I'm not aware of any trustworthy free VPNs. The only exception to this, is that there are some trustworthy paid VPNs such as Proton VPN and Windscribe, which also provide a limited free service.
BTW, how about AdguardVPN, with an unlimited paid version and a free limited-data version, as Adguard seems good in Ad and privacy protection?

The interface with OVPN is a bit basic but recently added split tunnelling, & it seems now to give a local DNS, for me London (when on UK server) - Its by far the fastest VPN I have used giving me a speed just a few meg under (about 20 less) than my original speed. It is a bit of a get used to program but I rarely like the privacy aspect - But probably not for everyone?

AdGuardVPN works pretty well now, the problems it had some time ago seem largely solved, some dislike it as they use their own system rather than Wireguard or OPEN, it can give faster speeds than Wireguard though - I bought a very long licence some time ago for a pittance I think it was 10 year & it still honoured, prefer OVPN or IVPN though.

I use the ff. free VPNs for various things:

Proton - I used this before to view and DL Tubi movies, but they limited countries to choose from; I think Privado works, as well as Adguard, but they have limited bandwidth

Urban - I use this to activate apps that require you to do so in the country where you bought the serial; it has lots of countries to choose from

Windscribe - I use the addon to quickly unblock web page elements that don't show up

I’d be a little cautious with free VPNs like UrbanVPN, honestly. They’re great for easy access, but I’ve found that they often have hidden catches—sometimes they log your data, run ads, or just don’t have strong privacy policies. I used a free one a while back, and while it worked fine for basic stuff, I eventually switched to a paid one because I wanted to be sure my info was actually secure. If you’re just using it casually, it might be okay, but if privacy matters a lot, a reputable paid option could be worth it.
