US Air Force documents were left on an unsecured backup drive, exposing highly sensitive personnel files on over 4,000 senior and high-ranking officers.

According to MacKeeper Security Researchers, the gigabytes of files were accessible to anyone because there was no password to protect the backup drive. It seems the information found there varied from names and addresses of officers, along with their ranks, and even Social Security numbers of over 4,000 officers.

Another file found on the same unprotected backup drive lists the security clearance levels of hundreds of officers, some with "top secret" clearance, which potentially makes them targets for those wanting to get their hands on such files.

Other spreadsheets contained contact information of staff and their spouses, along with private personal information and sensitive data. ... (read more)

Boy, Do we forget! In mid-2015 over 22 million (yes, 22 MILLION) applications for US security clearance were stolen by a country well known for Dim Sum. In case you may think that this is trivial, the data that was lifted (from the OPM- the Office of Personnel Management) was the form everyone has to fill out- Standard Form 86. If you are interested, please google this form- you will see that is is about 125 pages alone and does not include the FBI questionnaire of those people listed on it, all of which is now in foreign hands.

The only folks that were immune from this breach were CIA life-timers. But if any happened to be pimped out to ANYWHERE else, not only does some foreign country (think Fried-Rice) know EVERYTHING about you, but also know what past friends and boyfriends think about you (and people wonder why I don't sleep too much).

So in short, this recent breach is nothing but Brand New Same Old Thing, unless one just happened to get AF clearance in the past year.
