I also have a Windows 7 partition which has real-time protection:

Installed OS: Windows 7

OS Architecture: 64-bit

Real-time Protection: Microsoft Security Essentials

On-Demand Scanners: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Web Browser: Google Chrome Canary

Extensions and plugins: Google Chrome Canary:
  1. Lastpass
  2. Adblock Plus
  3. Tampermonkey
  4. Adobe Flash (in-built)
  5. ModHeader
  6. Speed Dial
  7. HTTPS Everywhere

FAQ:

Q: Why do you use no security software?
A: I feel security software bloats me down, and I have no need of it; no infections without it.

Q: Why have two partitions?
A: Sometimes a program does not work/work properly within Windows 8, yet it works fine in Windows 7.

Q: Microsoft Security Essentials lacks HIPS/BB, why use it?
A: I don't *need* HIPS/BB, and as such I do not have it. If I need one, I have plenty of sufficient options.

Q: What do you do on your computer?
A: I moderate some forums (which I will not mention here, due to the fact I have no wish to advertise them, which feels wrong), and play games, which aren't really virus risks.

Q: Why are you copying MrXidus' layout for the FAQ??!!!!!!??!!!
A: Since it looks awesome, and MrXidus is awesome. Awesome sauce.

Have you considered Hitman Pro? Have you also considered these couple of extensions?

  • HTTPS Everywhere
  • No Script
  • WOT

Apart from that it looks great. ;)

Do you have Windows Defender enabled on that win 8 box?

Not real time protection, no. But it randomly scans and detects threats for some odd reason, but they are all false positives/hack tools.

I had Hitman Pro (Pro) from a giveaway here on MalwareTips, found it to really annoy me on start-up and not give any results.

Those browser extensions I have really no need of, NoScript always is annoying to set up, and WOT has been growing inaccurate.

HTTPS Everywhere is a good suggestion, I'll think about adding it to my set up :)

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I do not see anything that could be added considering your FAQ answers.

I do however have one question.

MSE and Windows Defender (rebranded): apart from WD being available only on Windows 8, are there any specific changes excluding its core abilities? I know scan speed is way faster.

Its a beta build with a feature in mind: If for some reason it stops working, google devs will prevent this build to make it to the dev/beta channels.

Unless thing changed since 2011, that should be the main feature.

Also, it allows you to install without overwriting Chrome Installation (if you have one).

It gives you advantage to bleeding edge features not yet released to the main consumer build. It will also have any potential performance improvements, and as such makes it a good way to go if you are willing to risk a broken browser.

And for me, it hasn't happened yet.

Primary reason for me is that the Google Chrome browser kept on losing all of my data, and randomly wouldn't start up (happened to me on multiple systems, with multiple operating systems). Canary so far has lacked this issue, which makes it a good risk for me. I've also backed up my browser data in the cloud, so I shouldn't be too worried about losing data.

None noted. Also, the current Canary version is v26, just to note.
