Time flies, and things that once seemed cutting-edge now feel old and outdated. We know many people hold Windows 7 dear, but the time has come: we are ending support for Windows 7 starting with the next version of AdGuard Ad Blocker, v7.20, which we plan to roll out in December.

Why now?

We love and respect Windows 7 just as much as the next guy, but there are some objective reasons behind this decision.
To start, Microsoft itself stopped supporting Windows 7 almost five years ago. Some key libraries, development tools, and latest security technologies are designed for more modern operating systems, and it would be impossible to fully implement them while continuing to support Windows 7.
But that’s not the only reason. By focusing on the latest operating systems and not dedicating time and resources to optimizing the app for Windows 7, we can increase development speed and make the app more stable overall.

What if I still use Windows 7?

If you’re a loyal Windows 7 user and don’t plan to move off it, we understand and respect that. Fortunately, you can still use AdGuard Ad Blocker, just not the newer versions. You won’t be able to update your app to v7.20 or any future version, and if you do a fresh install of AdGuard on Windows 7, the installer will prompt you to install v7.19 instead, which is the last version supported on that OS.
