Actually Ad-Aware isn’t that bad either. The only thing that surprises me is that AhnLab got such a low score in the AV-Comparatives tests. However, I learned never to trust them.

Detecting malware other AVs miss does not automatically qualify you as a top-tier solution. As @Malware1 said, it detects some rarer samples, but misses a lot more (that others detect), which explains the low ratings.

For what it is, VT can be a useful set of tools to have added to ones arsenal. Combining both the VT uploader for the desktop and browser extensions for link and website scanning.
If its real-time protection is good and its prevention is excellent, what would the detection mean? I didn't have a virus even with only Ad-Aware, and many people don't.
