Vivaldi for iOS and iPadOS has been released, after a beta testing period of four months. Let's take a closer look at the browser.

In case you missed it, I reviewed the TestFlight version of the app when the first beta was released.

Vivaldi for iOS

Initial set up

When you run it for the first time, Vivaldi will ask you to choose whether you would like the app to block trackers and ads. The browser blocks trackers by default, but it does not block ads. You need to set it to block both during the initial set up, or later from the Settings. Next, you will need to choose the Tab style, there are two options that you may choose from: a simplified tab switcher, and a Tab Bar. We'll take a look at these options in a minute.

Start Page

The Start Page aka the New Tab page in Vivaldi has a speed dial with sponsored shortcuts for various websites and services. You can remove these, and replace them with shortcuts for your favorite websites.

We’ve released a new update to the Vivaldi browser on iOS – Vivaldi 6.4.

Earlier, this September we launched our browser on iOS, and we’re overwhelmed with the positive responses about Vivaldi’s unique features on your iPhone and iPad.

What stands out in Vivaldi is its powerful feature set and useful built-in tools, that make your browsing more personal and private. We are proud of the unique user experience we’ve brought to iOS and are motivated to fine-tune the browser into an even better version today.

Get more of Vivaldi in its new version

In this update, we’ve added new functions such as pinning tabs and shortcuts to search faster, rounded a few rough edges, squashed some bugs, and polished the browser with under-the-hood improvements.

This year’s Holiday release – Vivaldi 6.5 – is packed with a string of new features on your iPhones and iPads.

Vivaldi on iOS is the best gift we could give you this year.

As we near the Holidays, we bring in more cheer by adding one of the most requested features to the browser — a configurable Address Bar and Tab Bar. Now, you can place the Address Bar and Tab Bar at the bottom or keep them at the top.

Now that you can place the Address Bar at the bottom, you also have the option to reverse the order of search suggestions. This option is in addition to the default view that shows search results on the top.

You can give a personal touch to the browser’s Start Page by adding your custom images as wallpapers, or by choosing from a selection of preloaded wallpapers.

The new update also gets the signature feature of the browser where the color of the user interface matches the colors of the webpage you’re visiting.

Furthermore, we now make your complete browsing history available on all your devices. All data in Vivaldi Sync is fully end-to-end encrypted (E2EE).

Spring is here. So is our new colorful version on iOS — Vivaldi 6.6. With the latest update, you have new ways to personalize the look and feel of your browser — exactly how you want it.

We’ve added colorful Themes on your iPhone and iPad that make your browsing suit your aesthetic preferences. Whether you’re looking for a dark, light, or colorful theme, Vivaldi has something for everyone.

Loving the Dark Mode feature in Vivaldi? Wish you could apply it to every web page you visit? Well, now you can. You can already choose your preferred webpage color scheme — dark or light — independent of the operating system theme (Dark Mode). But if you have an affinity for the darker side of the web, Vivaldi now automatically generates a dark theme for unsupported websites.

More improvements:
  • Improved performance of the Tracker and Ad Blocker.
  • Open links in background tabs and share them through different apps and services in fewer taps.
  • Personalize Vivaldi through Speed Dials (bookmarks) and Wallpapers which can be accessed from the browser’s Start Page Settings.

Vivaldi 6.7 is available today on your iPhone and iPad.

You can now use multiple Vivaldi windows on iPad. Set the sorting order for Notes and Bookmarks. Force Dark Theme now follows your system color scheme.

Vivaldi 6.8 on iOS – Take control of your inactive tabs and new personalization options

The latest update to Vivaldi brings new ways for you to personalize the browser, with a customizable button in the address bar and easier Start Page customization. We have also made several improvements to our Ad Blocker and enabled Bookmark nickname matching.

We have three cornerstones for what you should expect from our browser; Powerful, Personal, Private. The release of Vivaldi Browser 6.8 on iOS brings Powerful new features and functionality that allow you to make your browser even more Personal.

Vivaldi 6.9 on iOS: desktop-style tabs improvements and finer control of the Address Field

Vivaldi 6.9 on iOS is here. This update introduces new tab management options and finer control over the Address Field, allowing you to tailor your browser to your needs.

Amongst the Vivaldi community, desktop-style tabs is one of the favorite mobile features. With our new update, you can display the X button on background tabs, when you use desktop-style tabs. If your tabs are piling up, this makes it easier to close the tabs you don’t need, as you can close them directly from the Tab Bar.

We recently introduced Search Engine Nicknames in the Address Field. With Search Engine Nicknames enabled, you can quickly switch between search engines, by adding the nickname you’ve chosen before your search term in the Address Field.

We’ve shipped a smaller but important set of fixes, especially in the areas of Sync and tab interaction. Sync signup and encryption have been made more reliable, and the UI has been updated to reflect the latest design of Vivaldi.net.

On iPad, you’ll see better keyboard shortcut support, and we’ve fine-tuned touch targets like the New Tab button to improve usability where it counts.

What’s new in Vivaldi 7.6 for iOS

Reader View, for when the content needs focus

The web can be a noisy place. Reader View turns the volume down so you can, well, read. One tap gives you a clean page with typography that actually respects your eyes. Pick a look that suits the moment, then settle in with your coffee.

Two images of Vivaldi on iOS, one showing an open tab, where there is an arrow that goes from the Reader View icon towards the second image, which shows the Reader View settings.

You control the experience. Choose a theme that fits the light around you, nudge brightness to tame glare, select a font that feels natural, and bump the size until the words sit comfortably. Vivaldi remembers your choices, so the next article opens exactly the way you like it. Late-night news, long reports, recipe binges, research rabbit holes are all easier to finish without pop-ups and chrome stealing your attention.

How to use it: open an article and tap the Reader icon in the Address Bar. Adjust theme, brightness, font, and size in the panel. Done. Your browser, your rules.

What you can tweak:
• Themes: light, dark, sepia, or high-contrast black
• Brightness: a simple slider for comfort at any hour
• Typography: Sans Serif, Serif, or Monospace
• Text size: quick minus and plus controls

Add your own search engines

We like choice. You should be able to search where you want, not only where someone else wants you to. In Vivaldi 7.6 you can add custom search engines on iOS, give them friendly names, and make the one you love your default. Power users can even add short nicknames to keep things quick.

Two images of Vivaldi on iOS side by side, one showing the menu where custom search engines can be added, and the other one showing the available search engines.

This is perfect for people who live in specialist sources: historians who search archives, developers who jump straight to documentation, music nerds who live in Bandcamp, or simply those who prefer niche engines. Add the engine once, then switch in a tap whenever your task changes.

How to add one: Settings → Search → Add Search Engine. Enter the name and the search URL, using %s where the search term usually goes. For Wikipedia, for example, you’d add:

A clearer Tab Stack pane in the Tab Switcher

Stacks are how you keep related pages together without drowning in thumbnails. In 7.6 the Tab Switcher gets a dedicated pane for Tab Stacks, which means a calmer overview and faster moves. Open the Switcher and you will see your Stacks presented as tidy cards. Tap a Stack to view everything inside at a glance, then jump straight to the tab you need.

The new Tab Stack pane on Vivaldi on iOS, which sits in between the private and open tabs to the left, and the synced and recently closed tabs to the right.

How to create stacks fast:

  • Long-press a link and choose Open in New Tab Stack
  • In the Tab Switcher, group related tabs into a new stack

Peek before you open with link previews

We have all played the game of mystery meat links. Not anymore. Long-press any link to see a live preview of the page. You can judge if it is the right thing before you commit, which saves time and a fair bit of scrolling.

Two images of Vivaldi on iOS side by side, the first one showing a link preview and the options to open the link in new tab, background tab, new tab stack or private tab.The second image shows the Content settings where the option to show link previews can be enabled or disabled.

The preview sits above a compact action menu. Open in a new tab if it is a keeper, open in the background if you are on a roll, open in a new tab stack if it belongs with your current project, or open in private if it is something discreet. Fewer dead ends, more momentum.

Vivaldi 7.7 for iOS
iOS users, we’ve got you covered too with improvements for iOS 26 compatibility. We spent time under the hood so Vivaldi feels steadier and quicker across more devices. Small improvements add up to a smoother day, keeping Vivaldi running smoothly on the latest Apple has to offer.

Vivaldi 7.8 for iOS
The iOS update is all about streamlining your workflow. Three features that remove friction and keep you moving.

Swipe to switch tabs. Your Address Bar just became a shortcut. Swipe up or down on it to jump straight into the tab switcher. It’s one of those gestures that feels natural the moment you try it, faster than tapping, more fluid, exactly where your thumb already is.

Add search engines from any website. This feature launched on Android in version 7.7, and now it’s on iOS too. Found a specialized search you want to use regularly? Long-press the search field, select “Add as Search Engine,” and it’s yours. Your university library, your company’s documentation, niche databases, now they’re all just a tap away in your search options.

Swipe away tabs. In the tab switcher, you can now close tabs with a quick swipe. No more hunting for tiny X buttons. Just swipe and it’s gone. When you’re managing dozens of tabs, these small gestures add up to a much smoother experience.
