Apple has just released iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, and macOS 26.1, which bring a couple of new features to Apple’s operating systems. The main highlight is probably the new “tinted” option for Liquid Glass that significantly tones down ‘Liquid Glass’ transparency effects. With these releases, Apple Intelligence features are also adding support for more languages.

Here are the main changes you should know about:

Liquid Glass toggle: By going to the “Display & Brightness” menu on iOS, you can now choose between the more transparent ‘Clear’ option and the new ‘Tinted’ setting that increases opacity and adds more contrast.

Lock Screen swipe: A new toggle in Settings > Camera > Lock Screen Swipe to Open Camera allows users to disable the swipe gesture on the lock screen to quickly access the Camera.

New languages for AirPods Live Translation: AirPods Live Translation, which is only available on the AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3, is adding support for Chinese (Mandarin simplified and traditional), Italian, Japanese, and Korean.

New languages for Apple Intelligence: Apple’s AI features now support Chinese (traditional), Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese (Portugal), Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Local capture settings: It’s now possible to change where Local Capture files are saved in Settings > General > Local Capture. A new toggle also lets users capture audio only when recording audio and video in apps and websites.

Slide Over on iPad: The existing Slide Over multitasking feature, which lets an app appear in a small floating window that can be dragged to the left or right side of the screen, is coming back after being removed on iPadOS 26

Thanks for the update, silversurfer! It's always good to see Apple pushing out these refinements—especially features like the Lock Screen swipe toggle, which could help with usability without compromising quick access. The expanded language support for Apple Intelligence and AirPods is a nice touch for global users too.

For anyone on iOS/iPadOS/macOS, remember that these point releases often include under-the-hood security fixes alongside the visible changes, so it's worth updating promptly if your device is compatible. If you've installed it already, how's the tinted Liquid Glass working out for you?

Updating on two devices now, hopefully I will now be able to delete contacts again on iPhone & a couple of ghost contacts that contain no information whatsoever & cannot be deleted, other than that I really like 26
