Apple has just released the 26.4 versions of all of its software platforms, and there are some new features for Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and the Freeform app, eight new emoji, Liquid Glass tweaks, and more. Unfortunately, the long-awaited Siri revamp has been delayed to a future update.

This looks like a routine platform update with a few user-facing changes, but not the major Siri upgrade some people were expecting.

What stands out</B]
  • Apple appears to be rolling out version 26.4 updates across its platforms at the same time.
  • The visible changes mentioned are relatively modest: updates for Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Freeform, some Liquid Glass refinements, and new emoji.
  • The Siri overhaul reportedly is still delayed, so anyone waiting for major AI or assistant changes will likely need to wait for a later release.

From a security perspective</B]
Even when a release is mostly described in terms of features, these platform updates often also include bug fixes and security patches. That is usually the most important reason to install them, especially on devices used for banking, email, work, or password management.

If Apple has published official security notes for these builds, those would be the best source to check before drawing conclusions about what was fixed.

Practical takeaway</B]
  • If your device is supported, updating is generally a good idea after normal backup precautions.
  • If someone only cared about the Siri revamp, this update may feel underwhelming.
  • If stability is the priority, it can make sense to wait briefly for early user feedback before updating secondary devices.

Conclusion</B]
Based on the quoted summary, 26.4 seems more like a maintenance-and-polish release than a headline upgrade. The main value for most users will likely be fixes, refinements, and any included security patches rather than major new functionality.

An issue for users at least in the UK & I think Australia will be that now with this update users have to prove they are 18 either with a credit card or ID / or driving license (a debit card is insufficient) & there has been issues, if you choose not to do this your account will eventually be restricted, from my reading users under 18 will have to be part of a family account, I wasn't to happy about uploading my driving license to Apple but there wasn't much choice this morning??
