So I want to know your thoughts on this:
In creating a new VM, under CPU options, where you select the virtualization options, I'm not sure about something here. Under the "preferred mode" it lists "Automatic; Binary Translation; Intel VT-x or AMD-V; Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI"
I have an Intel i7-4510U (Haswell)
Well first I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between "Intel VT-x" (without EPT) and "Intel VT-x/EPT" Anyone have an idea?
I know my CPU supports VT-x (it's an option in the BIOS, I have it enabled), but does it support VT-x/EPT? I've tried looking but can't find a solid answer (I think it does but I'm not sure).
EDIT: It does support VT-x/EPT
Intel® Core™ i7-4510U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz) Specifications silly me for not just looking at the data sheet earlier
Then, underneath the preferred mode options, you get 3 boxes you can check:
"Disable acceleration for binary translation; Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI; Virtualize CPU performance counters."
Another thing that I'm curious about is, if "Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI" is an option under preferred mode, why is it also listed again in a check box as "Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI".... if you select that as your preferred mode, wouldn't that be part of it, and if you chose "Intel VT-x" wihtout EPT, why would you check that if you have it set to NOT use it? Not really sure why it's an option twice?
Your thoughts?
