I like Everything Search Engine and use it extensively on my machine almost daily, I have one problem with it, it is dark theme, I'm a dark theme person, and tried alternatives to Everything to replace it but I always back to Everything because it is gives me instant results, I know I can change the colors from the settings, but headers and menus will still white always, so I was looking again for an alternative to find that Everything developer working on version 1.5 that have a dark theme by default, it is still in alpha phase, but it will not interfere with the stable version, so you can use both, I'm using it for week now, and I didn't find any problem with it, so if you like to try it, here are the details:

dark.accent.color.png

Everything 1.5 Alpha will not interfere with your Everything 1.4 installation.
Everything 1.5 Alpha will be installed to C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a and will run in a 1.5a instance.
Import history, filters and bookmarks from Everything 1.4

Thanks for sharing this info! It's great to hear that Everything 1.5 Alpha has a default dark theme and doesn't interfere with the stable version. Your post will surely help other dark theme enthusiasts who use Everything Search Engine.

Everything developer working on version 1.5
The Void Tools developer has been working on version 1.5 for 3+ years. It was initially released in March 2021. He said he projects another couple of years before 1.5 alpha moves to beta. He did not do any work on it for 1 year after its release in March 2021. Subsequent development has not been consistent.

After 3+ years of "active" development it is still full of annoying bugs that a user cannot use or find a workaround. Go look at the discussions on the 1.5 forum.

I've been using it for months to avail of the dark mode feature, and have not been experiencing issues. Maybe it's because I didn't notice them; I just use it to search for files across different drives, and sometimes delete or rename groups of files.

Some users experience bugs while others do not with the same software on the same OS. This is just the way software reality works.

A bug need not be experienced by all or even the majority of users for it to be a real problem.

What I see happening with Everything is that the developer is getting older and his support for the freeware has slowly been eroding over the years. I would not be surprised if he just stops development all together within the next 5 to 10 years.

Macecraft's Winfindr would be a decent replacement, but like all freeware with $0 revenue you get what the publisher is willing to give you. The Macecraft developer released Winfindr, a flurry of bug reports were made, and he has not fixed any of them really. So people stumble upon it, read about it, get influenced that it is a good soft, then they install it only to find out afterwards that there are problems - that the user either accepts and keeps using it or they do not accept it and move on.

You understand that the vast majority of the "changes" are minor or trivial, right?

1.5 Alpha was released in early 2021. Going on 4 years ago. And yet a bunch of things that have been reported have not been fixed. This all goes back to the developer not fixing stuff nor maintaining the pace of major releases of years past.

Since 2018 the developer, Void, has slowed-down. Prior to 2018 he was making a major release of Everything every year except for the period of 2010-2012.

Go onto the Everything forums and ask Void what the future of Everything is. Void will tell you.

It is mentioned in the page that it is just UI still under development, features are complete and stable, I don't think it was needing anything more than dark theme.
