VPN Privacy Applications, How do they work

I'm considering CyberGhost but before I go there I wanted to understand how such programs work and are used.

I am also interested in knowing if this is the best option.

Before you consider to use a VPN, you need to ask yourself if you really need it and why do you need it.

For home users, VPN is used to hide your IP address for privacy and access blocked websites in your country. It may also be used to secure your data online.

The only time I use a VPN service is when I want to access a video on Youtube and it says that video is blocked in my country. Otherwise I have no use for them.

This isint the only use of a VPN, Former hackers like Kevin Mitnick says that VPN can help you protect against not only hackers but NSA as well.!

Cyberghost is an excellent VPN, i use it myself.. Now whether you need or want it depends on perspective..
Do you own a desktop or a laptop? If it is a laptop, do you take your laptop out of the house with you sometimes, and connect on public "hotspots" or other peoples networks you just do not trust much? If the answer to those questions is yes, then you may want to look into a "Virtual Private Network".. The middle part of the name being the most important. The VPN encrypts you in a tunnel from your machine to the internet, making it very hard for "eaves droppers" on public hotspots to snatch your data.. As far as spoofing your IP address, as Littlebits suggested, this can be very useful for websites that are currently not available to you in your country.

Personally, i spoof my IP when connecting to sites im just not familiar with, or do not trust.

Cyberghost now has in place a "Anti Fingerprinting system" which spoofs all the information that websites can read from your browser..

So, are VPN's useful, in my opinion, yes, very much so.

I've never had anything of import to hide. I am just a bit fed up with everybody, including my government, spying on everybody. I'd just like to put a wrench in the works. Clearly, I've been visible and open about who I am until now. It just irritates me that so many agencies want to keep records on so many "consumers". We are no longer citizens, we're just money to the corporate sector and our governments play to them, not us. It was just a thought, going incognito on chrome clearly is not a way to mess them up. I just want to make it hard for them. If they did track me down, I'd be no different. I don't do bad stuff and I don't think good people should have records kept of their mundane lives.

Using cyberghost with firefox "Noscript extension" and even running Firefox in sandboxie, is more then enough.. With Cyberghost "Anti-Fingerprinting" and Noscript stopping scripts from running on pages unless allowed, you will be good.. You must clear cookies on your browser before running it in Cyberghost "hence" the usage of sandboxie, the cookies will not be stored and will be cleared upon exiting your browser..

Of course none of this works if you give yourself away while online surfing, I.E. filling in account info and passwords/ forms ect..

I use these methods for research, as my researching takes me to unfamiliar places quite often on the net..

I use ZenMate + HTTPS Everywhere when browsing on an insecure network (ie. open wifi / hotspots), and HTTPS Everywhere on any trusted network, but I don't use a VPN all the time, unless I want to bypass from restrictions.
