Serious Discussion What modules should a free antivirus offer as the bare minimum in 2026?

LOL...so true :)
Yeah but in the end you can have all the protection but if you targeted by a competent attacker or your email/pass is leaked in a breach or a sensitive company you use hacked then.....

It's not to say you make it easy but acceptance is a huge achievement at moving on with life rather than stressing over which AV/AM can protect you from advanced attackers.

And that's what's happened to me, it hasn't been from my end, but from hacked vendor servers.

In the end all your information is in a database somewhere, is it safe or will be safe forever probably not.

As others have said 'it aint me babe': And in my case as far as I'm aware I've never lost anything of importance but lots of others who save my data securely have though, Kindly after losing such major info great apologies have been made & 'changes have been made their systems to prevent such an occurrence again' - Thanks for that so very helpful - It does occur to me often, you must be a bit of an edjit to get infected these days or unlucky with the protections naturally in place...

In 2026 a free AV should at least include strong real time protection with behavior monitoring, cloud detection and good web protection against malicious links and phishing. Basic anti ransomware protection must also be included, ideally with some form of rollback. Core malware prevention should never be paywalled, while extras like VPN or firewall controls can stay premium.
