What movie are you watching or planning to watch?

Of course, advancements in technology , autos, internet, health care, etc all make life easier now but that doesn't mean society is better. Gun violence, wars, bullying, mental health, crime are terrible now. Back then you let your kids outside all day, they could go anywhere, you didn't have to lock your doors, you talked to your neighbours, life was simpler, enjoyable, and no one thought they had to work 60 hours a week to buy stuff they don't need. I'll take the 50'over what we have now any day.
I miss the days when we had more in person / human interaction with family, friends, classmates, et cetera.

Among some cons of current day life, that is a major one, where things have switched to more online than offline with others.

This video was one that made me think about some of the things that I miss most from the past, it was spending time with other people in person:

The 2025 American science fiction action movie Predator: Badlands.

Predator: Badlands | Official Trailer:

Predator: Badlands - Movie Review:

My Thoughts

My sister-in-law KC, my brother KDC, and I saw the trailer for this movie.

During the previous movie that we saw together.

My sister-in-law KC and I wanted to see this movie once it came out.

So that is exactly what we did.

Over the weekend, the three of us saw it.

I liked it better than they did.

They probably rated it a 5 – 6 out of 10.

While I rated it maybe a 6 – 7 out of 10.

Do not go into this movie expecting the usual type of predator movie.

It is a bit different, somewhat more family friendly, and Disney / Marvel-like than your usual Predator movie.

There was still action, violence, and some gore.

But some will be annoyed by some joking here & there, et cetera.

While Elle Fanning's character could be somewhat annoying at times.

I did like her performances, and her characters overall.

The pacing in this was pretty good, and it had a good start.

But you will notice some logical flaws et cetera increasingly as the movie goes on.

Just go into this movie to have fun & a few laughs, and you will enjoy it more.

The 2001 American science fiction psychological thriller movie Donnie Darko.

DONNIE DARKO (2001) - Movie Review:

My Thoughts

This movie has been mentioned here and there over the years as a cult classic.

I have also seen the cover image, and clips of it used over the years.

It is a movie that I made a mental note to watch one day.

Fortunately, in all those years, no one ever spoiled this movie for me.

So I was able to go into this movie blind.

Only knowing / thinking that it was probably going to be weird, confusing, and would be open to interpretation.

It was on Netflix, so I finally watched it.

When it started, it looked like it was the early 1990s, which confused me.

So I assumed that this movie was older than I had expected.

Based on the look of it, the clothing, hairstyles, vehicles, technology, et cetera.

The song Head Over Hells by Tears For Fears worked well with one of the opening scenes.

Tears For Fears - Head Over Heels:

Which gave it a more 1980s feel, and brought back some nostalgia of my public school days.

Then it was revealed to be 1988.

So then I thought that this movie was slightly even older than expected.

I was confused by this even more when I considered the various actors and actresses in this.

Which was surprising to see so many actors & actresses I recognized.

When I paused the movie to see when it was made, I learned that it was 2001.

Which made more sense.

But I am still impressed.

By how much they made it look & feel like it was filmed in the early 1990s or late 1980s.

Which are eras that I am more familiar with, but are fading memories now.

This movie is special in a way that I can not quite describe yet.

Besides taking you back to another era.

It somehow kept my attention as normal life stuff happened along with the occasional weirdness.

There was a mystery there that you try to make sense of.

As you try to look for symbolism, and try to figure out what it all means.

This movie did not blow me away like it is the greatest of all time or anything.

But it feels like a cult classic that you can watch again, and find new things & new interpretations.

This is a movie that I wish that I had seen years ago.

I am curious how it would have connected with me back then.

And how it might have influenced me.

This is definitely a movie worth watching.

I did not like the cursing in this movie though.

Now I can see why this is in some people's best or favorite movies of all time lists.

I would rate it a 4 out of 5.

UPDATE on "Eddington" currently on HBO. "comedy" is stretch, I'd say VERY DARK satire on recent (current) state of American (US) culture. Most accurate comment I read: "isn't a horror movie, it puts its finger on a kind of madness you'll recognize with a tremor" -- sadly the film needed to be made & seen, its satire appreciated

@Parkinsond I was very impressed with Better Call Saul, I just finished it last night. There are some great characters in that series (besides Saul), like Saul's brother Chuck (Lenny from Laverne & Shirley), his girlfriend, Kim and the "clean and perfect" Howard Hamlin. And you do have to pay attention to the scene "jumps", in the future and from the past, they help tell the story and shape the characters, especially of why Saul confessed to more of his involvement at the end, increasing his prison sentence.

Now for my next series? I would still like to find something more on Netflix, and then switch over to Disney+Hulu to watch White Collar (again), and whatever else they may have.

This is the last mention by simmerskool; it is another one.

It's hard to find a good drama those days; I miss 1990-2010 period.
I agree, it's now a lot of re-hashed concepts. And that's what I'm wanting, good drama like Blue Collar, Burn Notice, Boston Legal, Mash, Monk (later on, Suites) etc. It's like the music from the 1940s - 1980s were the best decades IMO, everything was new and fresh, now it's become so formulaic by the type of voice and sound that will sell.

I restarted Apple TV+ after a long pause to find something new.

I'm giving The Morning Show a chance for the first time just as season 4 finishes being released, and I like it so far. I'm halfway through season 1. It's a character, dialog driven drama with a well-grounded sense of humor. The cast—including some very famous faces—have all given compelling performances. It's easy watching without tending to be too vacuous.

No guarantees about future seasons. We'll see.

The Morning Show (TV Series 2019–) - IMDB
Rated 8.1/10
