Advice Request What other software to go along with KIS 2020?

Please provide comments and solutions that are helpful to the author of this topic.

Can share some of your strong tweaks with KIS?

Talking of privacy. I'm using a VPN, the following FF extensions with enhanced privacy flag settings and those provided by KIS for browser protection eg phishing/scam/malicious sites, PUPs, HTTPS Scanning etc. I believe they should be more than what AdGuard can offer. One good thing I see of Adguard is that I can see what software is phoning home which I can block without going through the net. I think BlackFog Privacy also has this feature while the other features are already present in KIS

uBO with filters in Hard Mode
ABP
BTL
CanvasBlocker
ClearURLs
Cookie AutoDelete
I don't care About Cookies
CSS Exfil Protection
Decentraleyes
ETag Stopper
IDN Safe
Keyboard Privacy
Privacy-Oriented Origin Policy
Smart HTTPS
StoragErazor
ScriptSafe
Trace
User-Agent Switcher and Manager
Anti-Adblock Blocker
Skip Redirect
History AutoDelete

Note :- The reasons why so many extensions are used is because, through testing, some have duplicate or ineffective features which I disabled while some needs to be combined to have effective blocking and others are to cater to shortfall in FF itself. Notice some extensions have features to prevent fingerprinting as well.

Later when FF implements surfing https-only sites in its future build the Smart HTTPS extension can, hopefully, be removed.

Thanks

Do your browsers even work with all that crap in them?

HarborFront,
You have several solutions:
  1. KIS + SysHardener - both on default settings. Good setup for most users. Most convenient. Basic script protection - do not block some scripts run by command-line.
No false positives or very rare. The lack of information about processes blocked by SysHardener can be sometimes problematic.
  2. Tweaked KIS to block script interpreters. Very good if your devices do not require scripts.
  3. KIS + TAM. Very good setup. The executable files (including scripts) are additionally protected by TAM. Many false positives for applications and software updates.
  4. Tweaked KIS to simulate TAM.
  5. KIS on default settings + H_C Windows Security setup (allowed EXE and MSI files). If you use unsigned applications, then the option <Validate Admin C.S.> may be set to OFF. Very good setup if you have devices that have to use scripts (can be whitelisted). The user has to know how to use H_C Logs and adjust the setup by whitelisting the blocked scripts.
The H_C settings cover additionally the shortcuts and more files with active content, so the malware often cannot use LOLBins.
You can use VS instead of H_C, although I am not a fan of using two or more 3rd party security solutions on Windows 10.

Yes, it is working very well. It took me a long time to test the extensions out. See attached.

OK finally settled for KIS (awaiting @harlan4096 tweaks) + SysHardener with default settings

Thank you

Thanks. I settled for a free and simple one and that is Sterjo NetStalker. Too bad it doesn't come with trace route and whois features

ESET detects this site as PUA  Hopefully a false positive.

HarborFront your over complicating things, you do not need 25 addons and 400 security programs. Your increasing the attack surface of your system with so many programs/addons. Please pull back and make it simple as possible.

Can you advise which 2 or 3 addons can handle majority of the below browser issues? Some of the issues are handled by FF itself but not other browsers

- ads & trackers
- malicious sites
- analytics (beacons, pixel etc)
- browser fingerprinting e.g. mouse wheel/speed etc Also, cross-browser fingerprinting for hardware e.g. screen resolution/GPU/CPU/RAM/audio context, ultrasound cross-device tracking (uXDT)
- social widgets
- microphone hijack
- WebRTC leak
- unwanted cookies [e.g. cookieless cookie (aka Etags, supercookies, evercookies, zombie cookie), super HSTS cookies, HTTPS cookie etc]
- webbugs
- clickbait links
- clickjacking
- anti-XSS
- in-browser cryptojackers
- browser hijackers
- browser lockers
- phishing and online scams
- PUPs, toolbars and pop ups
- overlays
- CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)
- CDNs (Content Delivery Networks)
- redirects
- session replay scripts
- spoofing/randomizing user agent/ timezone/header(etag and referer)/geolocation
- clean URL tracking
- WebGL
- clear history on exit
- ultrasonic tracking
- browser-based rootkits and browser-based botnets
- DNS rebinding attacks
- JavaScript-based side-channel attacks against leaks from CPU/RAM
- unwanted fonts
- other web annoyances

HarborFront who are you trying to protect yourself against? I honestly doubt the NSA/CIA is interested in you.

These are the addons you should install and nothing more. I assume you are using Firefox?

uBlock Origin
CanvasBlocker
Cookie Auto Delete
Clear Url's

Optional:
Decentraleyes
Umatrix
CSS Exfil

Anything else is just extra noise. Those extensions cover 99% of attacks. You can not stop side channel attacks from CPU/RAM that is a hardware problem that can only be fixed through firmware updates (Intel/AMD microcode update) and in the case of RAM you can't fix that unless they update the hardware architeture to stop Rowhammer style attacks (Disable Javascript if you want).

I would advise a password manager as a key pillar to your security config.

Not against the NSA/CIA. I'm using FF.

Protecting the system starts with the browser. After that you can talk of securing your system OS, hardware and software.

Besides hacking, virus/malware infection the nexr biggest issue is your privacy. Almost all those mentioned issues can be exploited (and have been exploited) to either maliciously infect or exfiltrate data from your computer

I don't have 1000 passwords so there's no need to use a password manager. My passwords are stored on a thumbdrive in a MS Word file. Like what you said additional software increases the attack surface

If you want security and privacy on Windows you really need to rip the guts out of the OS. That means making your machine basically unusable. If you want security and privacy then Windows as your main OS will not work and honestly if you make Windows unusable then what's the point of using it?

Install Debian, or Ubuntu, or Qubes and be done with if you want. You will need to learn iptables, apparmor, firejail.

I don't require 100% security and privacy. Have some will be adequate

Then less is more. The more apps/addons you have the more your attack surface grows and the more targets an attacker has to exploit. You have to realize privacy is not possible today without taking extreme precautions and measures that most are unable to take.

Still contemplating

HitmanPro Alert
Malwarebytes
MBAE
BlackFog Privacy
Adguard

Using FF with enhanced security/privacy flag settings and privacy extensions. And using O&O ShutUp 10 for better Windows privacy. Also, using VPN always-on

The reason being KIS 2020 already a very solid product.

Ads/trackers, scam/fraudulent/malicious sites, PUPs, crypto, ransomware, virus/malware, exploits, whitelisting, financial, firewall and HIPS etc basically handled by it and my FF browser.

Also, thinking of either using Hard Configurator or SysHardener with software to debloat Windows 10 and remove unused default Win apps

I need something to counter other software phoning home

VB and TOR are next on the line

Any suggestions?

These don't so I suppose any other but these will work:

I'd be interested in seeing what features and settings you have enabled/disabled on the extensions you have.

I reiterate. If you hvae 2 or 3 addons that can handle most of what I posted I'll be glad to use them
