Seagate has been quite reliable for myself!

I like both ideas buy an SSD to combine with my HDD installed

If you've been fine with a 1 TB HDD until now, I vote for SSD + HDD as well. Throw on a 250 GB SSD as your OS (and VM ) drive. Keep all your personal data and VM snapshots on the HDD. You're set.
