Windows 8 Security Is Not Good – Symantec

Windows 8 will go live next month and Microsoft promises that the new operating system is a much more secure working environment thanks to a wide range of improvements.

Security software maker Symantec, however, isn't quite convinced that Windows 8 will manage to face all challenges when it comes to malicious attempts and emphasized that Microsoft hasn't spent so much time on the security chapter of the new OS.

“We're just not seeing any significant improvements in Windows 8 security [...] it doesn't move the needle much,” Gerry Egan, Symantec senior director, product management, was quoted as saying by Computerworld.

So, is Windows 8 a vulnerable operating system? Not quite, says Egan, as the Windows Store indeed adds a security layer to an otherwise standard operating system.

Windows Defender however isn't such an advanced piece of software, Symantec's official believes, so he encourages users to install his company's products.

This article is just Symantec's way of trying to create more sales of their products. It is more of an ad campaign then an actual article.

Windows 8 security will be very good with the new Windows Defender, now paid security vendors will need to attack it in every way to try to get users to pay for their products.

I never believe articles written by paid only vendors.

If Microsoft would find a way to stop being over a month late on patches that they do issue.........................................................................which are overrated compared to the bugs Microsoft will never be aware of due to the non-Microsoft affiliated discoverer of said bugs having other clandestine plans that do not involve notifying Microsoft.

Symantec couldn't be anymore obvious than say buy our products because Microsoft doesn't know how to do it right. And even if they do the EU Anti-Trust (or whatever you call it) will complain about, like they did with IE Browser Choice.

Symantec are losing because other vendors are better. They remind me of Intel, wanting to dominate the market. Microsoft is no better.

This is some trick that is pulled off to persuade non "Tech-Savvy" users out there. I don't like that Symantec.

We all know that Windows Defender or MSE is good enough in the hands of a user with enough knowledge.
