but he has only 900 mb of ram, so you go into his pocket and telling him to buy ram and OS without knowing if he can afford it or want it.
with 900 mb of ram he cant upgrade to seven.
so just tell him to buy a new pc and you're done

these suggestions are good if you people sitting on the side and throwing things without even thinking but for him it just might be diffrent, so everyone with xp just replace the pc, it's cheaper then upgrading

Upgrading would be better Imo you get updated OS and you have new hardware.

Windows XP SP3 no longer receives Security Updates from Microsoft, it's a vulnerable and old OS. Same applies to older mobile operating systems, they get replaced.

I'm not bothered even if MS support for XP ended last April. Obsolescence is only relative. Plus this netbook is where I do my malware analysis. For browsing and surfing like what I'm doing now, I just switch to Linux :)

You should have said in the description box. I was under the impression that you used XP for online banking and entering passwords into an potentially exploitable IE8 web browser. Or even worse, the non-tabbed IE6 browser for online gaming. Have you visited http://theie8countdown.com ?

If Linux is your primary OS, then there shouldn't be a problem with security / privacy, assuming it's updated from any major flaws etc.

Would you rather use a Updated OS or a Vulnerable OS?:rolleyes:

I'd like to get your opinion @Huracan
\
I personally dont update my OS, so i'm not right person to ask.
upgrading the ram and the OS can cost 200 box, on our days you can find new pc for 300 box

I have 3 old dells laptops, 2 are running xp 1 vista, the xp's for my daughter to watch tom and jery, what will we gain from upgrading the OS? will tom and jery look better?

the vista has core to duo 2.5 gig of cpu 4 gig ram, but my wife use it only for skype, so if i'll upgrade to 7 or 8 will skype be better? no. so why even thinking about it.

people have different point of view.

and even if 8.1 will be free I won't take coz my wife will get lost. so for me i'd rather use vista not 8.1.

Nice config :)
I like it, especially the linux part :D
Why don't you use EEK or Herdprotect instead of Spybot S&D? ;)

I use S&D for immunization only. EEK too slow to update in my old netbook. Herportect won't run on my WinXP Home.
