Would you run Malware Hunter Pro (with realtime protection) with your AV?

does this software have a good 0-day protection, a decent HIPS or something similar that improves the protection from the main AV?

I think you need a really good AV for those things, paid or ,perhaps, one of the few best free AVs.

Also, if it's for the engine, I believe ZAM is better

I had to be away from Malware Tips awhile recently. But before I was gone, the last thing I was hearing here about ZAM was that they had dropped the multiple engines and that the quality of the product was vastly down. If that has reversed, I would be glad to hear it, because I have a ZAM license.

HMP.A (which includes HMP as a scanner) is also better.

Does HitmanPro.Alert indeed now include HitmanPro as a realtime scanner and not just an on-demand scanner? I have HPA but it's inactive now because I ran into a conflict with SpyShelter and couldn't get resolution from SpyShelter support. :( I didn't get around yet to trying HPA's support.

I've been using it since it was first released, as on demand scanner. I did use the real time protection briefly, but was not impressed.

Nah, I already have adorably-named anti-bad guy stuff on here. Would I consider Avast's GrimeFighter, no I would not. Rogue-Man Pro is plenty for me already.

It supposedly has "advanced" detection features utilized during its scanning. Edited in: If you don't have HMP Alert, it has to be executed for each use, unlike, say, Malwarebytes fully installed. I still use it as an on-demand and consider the Alert to be the real-time component, actually. I put the link there for the pdf at the bottom of the page, that's where the info really is.

Some say they use IObit Uninstaller and find it good but wouldn't trust in IObit Malware Fighter protecting their systems. Contradictions are real. :X3::p
It's not much of a contradiction. IObit Uninstaller is excellent (although I usually use Comodo Programs Manager these days) and IMF is average at best. But, they're both doing completely different things, so you can't really compare them in my opinion.

I didn't know that, I haven't used Zemana for a while. Good to know.

My 2c: I don't run any companion AV in my PC, and I don't think they are really necessary. But if I did, why would I choose a real time scanner? One Antivirus isn't good enough? A real time scanner... with Avira engine? Get Avira Antivirus instead!
I think a good companion AV has to have features your main AV doesn't. It should specialise in things your main AV is not is not really focused on. That's why I mentioned 0-day protection, but it could be anti-exploit, anti-ramsomware or anything. When I asked about this before, I was actually curious to see if someone tested it and found anything interesting, but if the most important thing is a real time scanner, then it's not worth my time.

I was talking about using different products from same company, one is good, and other is questionable. The question was how can there be such difference in quality. As an example, all Kaspersky products are more or less same quality and you can trust them. But IObit products? Same is with the Malware Hunter Pro from Gary Utilities. ;):)

Another 'me too!' malware hunter by a relatively new author/publisher of a utility suite. Thanks, but no thanks and that holds even if it is a giveway.

Why can't these guys just focus on what they're good at and strive to make it even better? Reminds me of what Iolo tried with System Mechanic. They added AV and firewall modules to their utility suite. Seriously? Why? And then they lost me as a customer.

No, not as a permanent fixture maybe as one off then uninstall as I found it a bit heavy and intrusive in the iobit ASC way.

Maybe a portable version if it exists ?

Regards Eck:)
